CLASS HISTORY We began our fnrst year nn hxgh school nn the year 1946 We dad the followmg things together or mdxvxdually through the co operatron of our fellow students and teachers Our class offncers were as follows Presndent Evelyn Sutton Vxce Presxdent Nma Efxrd Secretary Mamie Wooten Treasurer George Cohe Song Leader Loulse Gray Program Chanrman Jeanette Jarman We chose our class colors red and whxte our class flower red rose and our motto Not at the top but stxll hmbmg We the students trxed our best to be leaders and brxng our class out on top The fol lowxng students gave our class very much honor Faye Dall represented the school rn the state wlde dress revxew held nn Ralexgh Evelyn Sutton entered the state speakxng contest on World Government Carl Gray won the basketball trophy and was also the Captaxn of the team Most of the boys m the class played baskttball tn the county tournament an which Wheat Swamp was Champuon Our class took great pleasure m havnng some of the leadmg parts nn the May Day exer cxse Many of the boys took part tn dancmg and the marchmg was conducted by the nnnth grade gurls Most of the May Day Court was out of our class Evelyn Sutton bexng Matd of Honor The tenth grade began tts second year nn hugh school under the dxrectnon of Mrs Charles T Tucker At our fxrst class meettng the follownng offncers were elected Presudent Ntna Eftrd Vtce Presldent Eva Hxll Secretary Evlyn Sutton Treasurer Faye Darl Song Leader :lndb Program Chaxrman George Cohe Reporter Jeanette Jarman l-ltstorxan Mattxe u er The class presented a four act comedy Romance In a Boardmg House March 7 1948 at 7 30 p m Carl Gray led our boys by benng captam of the basketball team agam thus year Along with htm were Ed Smxth Fred Hart M C Barfteld Stanley Moore Roger Creech George Cohe George Rouse and Preston Emerson Gnrls gomg out for basketball were Faye Dail Mamie Wooten Loutse Gray Evelyn Sutton Margaret Dawson Jeanette Jarman and Lots Merrltt Our boys and gtrls played very hard tn the grade tournament and walked away wtth both trophys as well as bemg good sports In the Fall of 1948 we began our thxrd year of hugh school work Our home room advxsor was Mrs Malbert Smxth Our other teachers through the year were Mxss Thelma Mr J T Forrest In our fxrst class meetnng we elected Mattte Huber Presxdent Jeanette Jarman Vnce Prestdent Ed Smxth Secretary Evelyn Sutton Treasurer Jean Tyndall Hxstortan Preston Emerson Song Leader and M C Barfxeld Reporter We presented to a large audience Aunt Samanthy Rules The Roost on March 17 1949 We also presented a baby contest on thxs same date We had no more than ftmshed our play when the bug questton of honormg the semors at a banquet came up We earned out a very pretty theme of Moonhght and Roses tn the Hotel Kmston Ball room Durmg thus school year Mattte Huber won a very pretty medal for speakmg on The Responsxblhttes of the U S rn World Peace Faye Danl won the crtlzenshnp medal Carl Gray won the basketball medal and Jeanette Jarman won the acrnvxtnes and typmg medals We began our Semor year tn the fall of 1949 wrth twenty two tn our class Later we were proud to have Jewel Eubanks enter our class Our teachers were MISS Wlnlfred Kernodle advxsor Miss Herman Spence Mr Coy Brown Miss Mary Ahce Gay Mxss Josephxne Herring Mr J R Butts and Mr J T Forrest Our class offtcers for thts year were President Jeanette Jarman Vtce President Carl Gray Secretary Evelyn Sutton Hxstorlan Nxna Eflrd Treasurer Mattxe Huber Reporter Jean Tyndall Asstst ant Reporter Preston Emerson Program Chaxrman Eva Hull Song Leader Lots Merrttt We began by takmg the responsubnhty of sponsornng Square Dances in the GYMI1 WNY Wednesday mght wxth cooperatnon of the Junxors and P T A We pr9S2hI2d DUI' SUNG' play on November 18 1949 It was conducted by Mass Kernodle and was the best Yet M11 D ll Cook was a verv mterestnng play and each character played hrs part o ar splcfnd?dI The Jumor Semor banquet and graduatton were the other htghhghts of the year Nma Efxrd Hastoruan ' i v v 1 2 V 3 f . u . -'. . ,, II ' ' 5 1 Y 7 I I , . 1 I 'I 1 I ' 1 H .
