Of those 28 only 11 remain to conquer space with a diploma in hand. They are: Jack Blaylock, John Wagner, Richard Walker, Jane Green, Kathryn Just, Coreen Kitzman, Sandra Kitzmann, Julia Lawrence, Annetta Mueller, Phyllis Tancer, and Myra Walker. Our take- off was smooth under the guiding hand of Mrs Anna Wilson. Landing upon the first satellite on our journey to higher education we were greeted by Mrs Edna Fabritz. Four native inhabitants joined our crew. They were Benny and Denny Harrison, Russell Fogle and Gordon Hellman. Cruising forward through the intimate limits of space, we are greeted by our third grade teacher, Miss Eleanor Rudd, and another new crewmate, Shirley Ladely. I As we surged steadily onward, a huge satellite came into view. Here we made our home for the next three' years. First to greet us on this new-found home was Mrs Lenore Hamilton, and Pat Jennings, Jerry Sherer, Larry Hall, David Moore, and Jeri Hunter as fourth graders. Upon further exploration, we met Mrs Seitsinger, our fifth grade teacher. Having neared comple- tion of our tour of the huge satellite, we met Mrs Melvina Putnam. Through her guidance we became talented experts on the rock formations of the area. With the first stage of our rocket burned out, the second carried us upward to Junior High. As our rocket orbited around seventh grade, we found Mrs Tinsley in the pilot's seat and also a new explorer, Lloyd Colbert. That year was filled with glamour of our first semi-formal banquet. Nearing the opposite side of opr orbit, we collided with an asteroid and there we found our fifth grade teacher, who evidently had shot up in the space world since we last left her. Along with Mrs Seitsinger were a few new explorers -Sherry McKay, Larry Hartwig, Dick Puder, and Janice Moore. This year we were guests of honor at our second semi-formal banquet and dance. Accord- ing to our latest bulletin from the planet Earth, Can- Cans were the latest rage. On May 17 with eighth grade diplomas in hand, we landed on a space station. From there we trans- ferred to a larger ship, which carried us upward to high school. In our new streamlined ship, we blasted off to new experiences. In our freshmen year we found Phyllis Surber, Bill Burnett, and Virginia Willey had joined us. The initiation of the crew to our new ship was the highlight of our freshman year. Cruising into our sophomore year, four students had to abandon their Gibson ship for lack of pilot and joined us. They were Janice Huffman, Bill Cooper, Tom Sarvis, and Donnie Walsh. It was during this year we sponsored our first earth dance, a 'tsock hop. Our junior year was smooth rocketing as we cruised into Oriental Paradise for the Junior-Senior Ban- quet and Prom. Now our goal of education was com- ing into sight as we became leaders of explorers in space as seniors. Along with the three R's, our final efforts as crewmen rocketing to Higher Education were aimed at raising money for our excursion on earth in a place called the Ozarks. On May 21, twenty of us found ourselves gliding directly toward the auditorium at South High School to receive our Q 'C' o ' . ,' diplomas. After our excursion on earth, we decided that there isf no better place on which to build our Step to SUCCESS. I Senior Class Will We, the class of 1959, being of sound mind and body, do declare that this is our last will and testa- ment, To Mrs, Miller's future home economics classes we leave our bent pans, chipped dishes, bits of left- over material, and our spaghetti down the drain, To Mr, Gunter's up-and-coming classes we leave our ability to talk him into having a class meeting, whether it is necessary or not. To Mrs, Tinsley's future play casts we leave all of our acting ability???? And to her future Eng- lish Literature classes we leave our Reader's Digests, with fondest regards! To Mr, Moon's future chemistry classes we leave our ability to almost, but not quite, blow up the chemistry room, - To Mrs, Osweiler's future classes we leave our old study guides, beat-up typing erasers, unfinished journalism assignments, and her famous saying, Get Ready-Type! To Mr, Nelson's future classes we leave our ability to have a gay time before he gets to class, We leave Mr, McNeil's cute little blush to all the girls in his future classes, We leave our dilapidated music stands and torn music sheet music to Mr, Cadwell and Mrs Shafer's future music classes, Besides this, we all have a few personal items that we would like to leave to the class of 1960. Jack Blaylock leaves the cloth he polishes apples with to Donald Arendt, and his naturally curly hair for that additional touch of charm, The Senior Homemaking girls leave their new styles and creations to Kay Rea, who probably doesn't have closet space for them anyway, Annetta Mueller leaves her ability to say the wrong things at the wrong times to the wrong people to Carol Ridgeway in hopes that she won't use it quite so much as she did, A Sandra Kitzmann leaves her ability to get along with the teachers as well as her study habits to Ron- nie Morris, who seems to get along without them anyway, Kathryn Just wills her crown to next year's homecoming queen, and to Ruby Thomas she leaves the shy smile she used to attract a certain classmate, but Ruby must find her own classmate on whom to use it, Larry Hartwig leaves his graceful, long-legged stride to Mary Rogers, who obviously has her own ideas on the subject of correct walking procedure, and by the way, these have thus far been most effective, Phyllis Tancer leaves to Ruth Thomas her string of broken male hearts that reaches from Georgia to What Cheer along with a very secret admirer, recognizable by a distinct Georgia accent, Larry Hall wills his private path to the office to Nancy McKay and his ability to get good grades??? to Lucille Williams, Janice Moore wills her little green Pontiac to Dick Ross because she can't drive it legally anyway, since she let her permit expire, Julia Lawrence leaves her title as Junior Liberace to Ronnie Burriss, though we don't know what he'll do with it, Bill Cooper wills his aggressive football ability to Jerry Hudson, and for after-game activity he can uphold Bill's famous drag record. Tommy Sarvis leaves his singing ability to Shirley I 9 P Burggraaf so she can serenade the kids on the Gibson bus as he has done in the past. I Myra Walker wills her big brown eyes and win- ning ways with the boys to Clara Koch, Janie Green leaves her fancy hair styles designed by Clif to Patty Garber and guarantees there will be no more nightly pin-ups, also her ability to get flashy birthday gifts, Shirley Ladely leaves her ability to skip out of school and get caught to Donnie Bennet and her 'basketball ability to Sharon Sypherd, Benny Harrison wills the left-hind tire off his little brown Ford to Mary Steffen in hopes that she'll find some use for it, Janice Huffman wills her silver tooth to Sally Beasley because she thinks she needs some silver threads among the golden hairs, Dick Puder leaves his ability to replace trans- missions, which have been torn out, to David Graham -and he also wants to remind Dave that he still owes him 830, Dick also leaves his vivacious red hair to Sharon Cox with the hope that Jerry won't mind too much, Ronnie Boeding leaves his ability to roll cars, but oh so neatly to Vernon Stanley, who evidently is working to achieve the honor, John Wagner wills his blush to Jim Fairchild and anyone else who has interests at North High, CJohn also has a class ring he wants to give away, but we're sorry Juniors, it just doesn't seem to be headed your way. It has taken a northerly directionj Richard Walker wills his way with college women, especially a certain Freshman at Parsons, to Dale Fry who can do his own sorority house rush- ing for a pledge of the fairer sex, Sue Musgrove wishes to leave her graceful roller skating ability to Sue Olin, She also wants to leave her the third skate she has been using for the past eighteen years as she caan manage nicely without it now, Larry Weber wills his quiet ways to Betty McKay, although we doubt if she would know what to do with them, and his stairway seat and dark corners to Wesley White, who doesn't have to be told what to do with them, Coreen Kitzman doesn't wish to leave anything, There is a very simple reason for this-she wants to take it all with her! THE SENIOR CLASS OF 1959 Prophecy In the year 1969, the South High Juniors gathered for a reunion at the Starving Sarvis Sagebrush Ranch owned and operated by Mr and Mrs Tom Sarvis. Mrs Sarvis is the former Kathy Just, The well-known couple was sponsoring the world-wide acclaimed '59er's Rodeo, Upon arriving at the ranch, we were met by a ragged Mexican servant who assisted us in carrying our luggage, We were astonished to learn that this poor servant was our old friend, Pedro Puder, There were several newspaper reporters covering the rodeo and among ,them was Annetta Mueller, She told us she was representing the Creeping Cactus Chronicle of Coal Creek, and that she had a by- line of the Barefoot Babe, Before leaving for the rodeo, we sat down to a delicious meal of baked cows heads with onion rings on the side served by the head dietician, Jane Green, While at the rodeo, we bumped into another good friend, Ronnie Boeding, who told us he was the famed daredevil of the Boogie Woogie Thrill Riders. He explained his main event to us, His aid, Shirley Ladely, would be strapped on the hood of his car and he would-drive through a wall of fire, hurdle a fence, and land in an eight foot pit, We had heard .Iwo .. li, of this amazing feat throughout the U, S,, lqt never realized some of our beloigd seniors were perform- ing it, ' ' We were attracted to a particular gentleman in the crowd, whose pockets were laden down with gold, We were surprised to learn tl this was John Wagner, He told us he had acquire is great wealth in Alaska, where he owhs a chain of Wagner Wagon Wheel Trading Posts, which sells French bathing suits to the mancy Eskimo girls, W We saw a gr up of children screaming and crowd- ing around an apparently very popular personality, This turned out to be Richard Walker, who is the famous Wolf on the Lassie television series, ' The rodeo was about to begin and we hustled to our seats, The first rider we saw was Buffalo Bill Cooper riding a bucking bronco. He cleared the corral gate and roped a Brahma bull in his famous act, There were many exciting events in the rodeo including a yodeling contest won by our one-and- only Julia Lawrence, After the rodeo, we decided to take a trip into a neighboring town, We were astonished to see that so many of our friends had set themselves up in busi- ness there, For example, Janice Huffman is an in- structor at the Twinkle Toe Tish Dance Studio where she specializes in teaching Western Squares, Myra Walker is a successful wrestling man r, She owns a fleet of top wrestlers named Wal 's Walloping Whoopers, Janice Moore is another successful business woman, She is the partner in Henley's Hooked and Hocked Hardware, They sell bald scalps, broken arrows, hatchet handles, and split canoes, All Western towns have a Boot Hill and we could not leave until we visited this famous land mark, Here we found Phyllis Tancer planting pennies, She plans to grow a money tree on Boot Hill, Our appetites were growing, so we agreed to stop at the next restaurant, Then we saw it - a large flashing neon sign advertising Runty Dude's Ranch, We stopped and found Coreen Kitzman as co-owner of the elegant eating spot which included a group of cigarette girls led by Sue Musgrove, Coreen welcomed us with open arms and 'insisted upon ordering for us the speciality of the house-Roasted Rattlesnake at a bargain rate of one dollar a foot, She and her husband got the idea for it from visiting Runt's Ranch in Oskaloosa, When we returned to the ranch, our host insisted on giving us a guided tour, First we went by the orchard and couldn't help but admire the beautiful trees, As we were taking in this view, who should shuffle out but Jackie Blaylock, We asked what his job on the ranch was, and he said Fm an apple polisherf' The ranch was tremendous and many hands were needed to run it properly, Among the hands was Larry Hartwig, He teaches the dudes how to lasso 'a gir , Also employed at the ranch is Larry Hall who is a stable boy, Since his luck with the girls has run low, he is trying his luck with the horses, We saw one of the hired men resting under a shady tree, and learned this was Larry Weber reading his love letters from Rita, After a day of excitement, we settled back to a quiet evening of television, We were greeted on the screen by a young girl advertising quilted foil hula hoops, designed for catching disintegrating satellites, Later we recognized her as Sandra Kitzmann, The show began and we were astonished to find that all the clowning Benny Harrison did in school has been an asset in his new career, He is the new Mortimer Snurd brought to life, After enjoying the hospitality'of our gracious host and hostess, we returned to our normal lives knowing that we will always remember the beloved Seniors of 59, n 4, ,-. e H IL X
