Class Prophecy The year IS 1966 We are prepar1ng to take a trlp to our satell1 e the Moon There we are plan n1ng to v1s1t our old school mates the sen1or class of 1906 and see how they are gettmg along ln th1s modern day world Wlth the educatlon they recexv ed a good old WCHS As we board the shmmg space shlp we are greeted by the stewardess Mary Coulon My she certamly IS gettlng up IH th1S world We would llke to talk to her but she only has t1me now to see tha we are safely strapped ln our seats The count down begms 10 9 8 7 6 That VOICE certa1n1y sounds fam1l1ar Why 1ts Gene Clerk1n domg the countmg He seems to be gettmg along sp1end1dly wxth what he learned 1n school as long as he doesnt have to count ox er ten 5 4 3 2 1 0 and we re off After the slckenlng take off W beg n to wonder 1f we are 1n safe hands We dec1de to go forward and see who 1S p1lot1ng our shlp As we enter the control room we are startled to no e that the p1lOt and co pllot are not pay1ng th sl1ghtest attentlon to the controls but are ser1ously engaged attentlon to us and as they turn around we are surpr1sed to not1ce that thev are Jerrv Stull and Eugene Hames After th1s fea ful dlscoverx we are even less sure of our safety We havent long to worry however for sud denly we meet another shlp gomg the other d1r ectlon Before the shlp fades 1nto the dlstance we see that It IS the DIXIE Doodle plloted by Dean Patterson headed for the Barnes Clty space port no doubt Abruptly our attent1on IS drawn to a commo txon bemg st1rred up m the passenger compart ment As we open the door we are bowled over by a cloud of smoke Whats the matter ls the shxp on f1re No 1ts onlv M1ckev McKav try1ng out a new brand of plpe tobacco from h1s tobacco plan tatlon on Mars After th1s frxghtenmg experlence we are glad to land and get our feet back on sohd ground even 1f It IS only the rocky surface of the Moon As we prepare to leave the bubble enclosed landmg f1eld we meet the chauffeur of the local hotel bus When he takes off h1s hat to don a space helmet we are surprxsed to fmd that It IS our old fr1end Alv1a Hymes He helps us 1nto the sleek l1ttle Jet power ed automob1le and we are off Talk about your one arm drxvers th1s lrttle rlg needs no arms at all He pushes the auto pxlot button and turns a round to grve us h1s undxvlded attentlon He asks 1f we would lxke to see the town before gO1Dg to the hotel and we agree that lt would be a good xdea As Alv1a slows down to cross some rallroad tracks we not1ce a poor lonesome hobo Closer examxna tlon reveals that xt 1S Betsy Baylor st1ll fol1ow1ng the ra1lroad Soon we enter the c1ty and are surpr1sed to not1ce a large Slgn on one of the bu1ld1ngs readmg Ham1lton Manufactur1ng Company Alv1a expla1ns that lt IS owned by Larry Ham1lton who IS the solar system s largest manufacturer of robots The strange thmg about these robots IS that they all look an awfully lot llke some Webster glrls we once knew Before we go any farther we declde to send some post cards back to our frlends on Earth We drop the cards 1nto the slot at the Post Off1C9 and not1ce Darlene Nelson sortlng mall She must haxe enjoyed playlng post offlce wlth the What Cheer postmaster so much that she decxded to make a professlon of lt We return to the waltmg Jet moblle and blast off for the c1ty s largest nrght spot LIZZQS Lunar Club Yes 1ts owned by our old frlend Ellzabeth Rea As we walk through the swlnglng doors we cannot help but not1ce an allurmg barmaxd lean 1ng agalnst a table When she turns to greet us we see that lt IS Marrlyn Mueller She leads us to the other Slde of the room where we f1nd Joan Stanley slnglng the Moon Mombo to the mus1c of Sam s Syncopated Sophlstlcated All Glrl Orchestra stvled ln the famous Bunt ng manner Sam IS blar 1ng out the fam1l1ar stralns of h1s own composl txon Moon N1ght and Four Roses After consum 1ng some of the Houses popular dxsh Mars Bars and Neptune Nectar we are ready to go to our hotel We arr1ve 1n t me to get 1n on a fashion show that IS about to start As the llghts d1m Bob Hope the master of ceremon1es steps onto the stage No walt' Th t 1sn t Bob Hope xt s none other than our own Leland Tolles The curta1ns part and we f1nd that the f1rst model IS another of our classmates It I , .
