L01 UR XDO HOME ECONO WICS Among other innovations at Wharton High School thi year is the Home Economic Department 1 he work is in the hanos of a thoroughly competent instructor Fl he equip ment is modern and ample in amount Marty of the girls have taken up the course and feel that it is very beneficial lqhe first semester was devoted to Domestic Art for which one room in tl'e b sement is provided with cutt ng ta lcs sewing machines and cabinets for keepinv the garment When the inspector for this departmet was here she seemed well pleased with the work and upon her recommendation a half credit was received in Domestic Art The favorable report she made led us to believe we shall also receive the credit in Domes tic Science Tle second semester is 'eing devoted to Domestic Science A special gas plant fo this and the other science laboratory is included IH the equipment There are tables and for the cepartment was given by a shower from the people of the comm.1nity The model dining room which is very pretty and well planned had to he moved to make room for the cafeteria which is run in connection with this department Mrs M Hodges has devoted all of her time without compensation to the cafeteria where hot lunches are served to all those desiring tl em This is very convenient for those pupils who live in the country or in neighboring towns and attend school here Besides these of whom there are a good number there are pupils living in Wharton some dis tance from the school who prefer to have their lunch at the cafeteria The meals are care fully planned special attention teing paid to food values and to variety of menus And best of all the price is low enough to be within the reach of almost every one Those who are unable to pay for a hot lunch are given one free of charge The cafeteria is not run for profit so only an amount necessary on a self supporting basis has to he real ized from the sales and that is why they can offer the lunches at such a small price This is a great benefit to the school and we feel that the citizens realizing the value of such a department to the school and the pupils will contmue to support it l S cult nm I .
