Young and old alike share their very love for todays music We are thankful to the artists who have contributed their talents to music The great success of Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie; the rising stars of Prince, Duran Duran, and Culture Club; and the comebacks of Tina Turner and Chicago are only the beginning of future music successes The Boss, Bruce Springsteen, seems to shine continously with the passage of each new day. The music industry showed its gratitude and affection to its fans throughout the world by forming the group Band Aid ' . Rock stars from several different groups assembled to help the starving children of Ethiopia by recording the song Feed the World: Do They Know Ifs Christmas? . This song of generosity and hope will be an inspiration for the whole world We, the yearbook staff, would like to dedicate this yearbook to the music industry. In addition to their work with the photography club they donated hundreds of hours of work and skill in producing a multi-image presentation which enhanced the image of both the Industrial Arts Department and particularly South High School This slide audio presentation was designed to educate and impress upon junior high students the seriousness of high school course selections and future career decisions. Kim Borgen, Kathy Bleakney, Julie Conlin, Men Gorman and Liz Matson, all seniors this year, led the team in vanous events. Upcoming talent is that of Joanne Rudolph Shan Laprise and Corol Stone - if she ever recovers! Congratulations girls on an outstanding season! The team posted 1 1 wins and 6 losses. The enthusiasm of the team may very easily be attributed to the 7 game winning streak. In games 2 - 8. Some of this years seniors that led the team included Pete Hugo Shendan, Bob Sheehan,who pitched 3 wins, 2 losses and Scott Bruce who pitched 1 win and no losses. Remembenng last years seniors we should mention John BJ Scanlon who boasted the most BBI s and also a miraculous 5 homeruns for the season Neil Gibbons earned the best batting average. To add to the list of heros were Mark Pino and John Staples who played on the All- Star team 1 lO SOFTBALL Mr. Jamieson took on the task of coaching the softball team of 1984. The team consisted of a crowd of wild and crazy gals who boasted an excellent season The team registered 17 wins against 6 losses. They made it to the sectional semifinals. Some of the outstanding players who are seniors now, were Cara Blake, Colleen Houde and Ann Meaney. Last years senior Nicky Comeau also led the team to victory. P. 1 1 1 For the 4th consecutive year, Mr. Saya coached Boy s Tennis to a successful season Leading the team in singles was Rich Crook at the top of the ladder and Dave Howe holding the unegualled record of 13 wins and 3 losses. Sean McKinnon, Sophomore was the number 3 player this season Favontes in doubles were Mike Lynch and Solmon Rizvi playing first doubles., Mike Barthel and Fran Forrest played second doubles. Our prominent tennis team went on to beat all opponents with the exception of Hingham the perenial power houses. Dances at Weymouth South are few and far between and are an event welcomed by alL The upbeat music and awseome light show was provided by a team of D.J. s who included : Dave Holt Kenny Karlberg, Dave Pepe and Doug Orcutt This group does alot of local dances and many students were excited to hear and see them again The dance began at 7:00 p. m with the sounds of Pnnce, New Editioa The Boss and some popular break- dance tunes. Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors all attended the dance.
