K HISTORY OF THE. CLASS OF 1947 As the seniors of Veyauwega High Cchool look back to the year 1941, there is one day which will always stand out in their minds That is the day the entered high school as freshmen There were fifty of them, bright eyed, eag to learn, and intent on an education Their names were Leonard Birkholz Leon Brasch, Henry Clausen, Loren Ebert, Roger Fischer, Gerald Fraedrich, Duane Gilbertson, Marlyn Hahn, Louis Herzfeld, Arnold Kempf, Werner Koehler, Donald Lautenschlager, Vernon Niemuth, Alvin Thiel, Elaine Baehman, Velda Bartel, Bernice Behm, Valoyes Behn, Ruth Buchholz, Delores Burow, Audrey Kramer, LaBerta Kruse, Lois Lind, Ardis Neuschafer, Geraldine Pranl, Betty Preuss, Geneva Radt ke, Genevieve Radtke, Eleanor Rasmussen, Vera Sasse, Gladys Schellin, Shirley Stahlberg, Ellen Qtrey, Naomi Yonke, Ona Anklam, Alvera Luker, Verona Bucholtz Betty Huffcutt, Richard Hecht, Warren Kempf, Charlotte Koplien, Eldor Loerke, Vernon Loerke, Virginia Leubke, Wayne Marten, Herman Piller, John Webb, Billy Winter, and Jerome Zabel Duane Gilbertson was elected our president, Gerald Fraedrich vice presi dent, Vera Casse secretary, and Ardis Neuschafer treasurer Mr Thiesen and Mr Kurtz, as our class advisers, helped us over many difficult bumps freshmen, we were somewhat shy,and so did not participate in many extra cur ricular activities, although some of us were in the band and athletic activi ties :even of our original number did not return to s hool the next fall, but Elsie Hildebrand, Karlton Borchardt, and Oleatta Moak entered from Fremont High School Mr Ketchum and Hr Wolkenhauer were our adv1sers,and Duane Gilbertson was our president, Don Lautenschlager our vice president, Audrey Kramer our left because of illness, and Mrs Taylor replaced him as our adviser Then, in 1945, came our great junior year, the year of the Prom Ve selec ted D ane Gilbertson as King, and he in turn picked Delores Burow to be his Queen 'I'm Always Chasing Rainbowsu was the theme, and the decorations in the gym carry out that theme were very beautiful Benny Graham's orchestra was h d for the ocassion Our class advisers that year were Mr hinch and Mr Ket Our officers were Duane Gilbertson, Don Lautenschlager, Louie Herzfeld nd Betty Preuss Again thatyear seven of our classmates did not return, but John Looker, Arden Toepke, Delores Koplein, Edris Lind, Margie Meydam, Elena Cappino, and Marilyn Nelch entered to make our ranks total 45 members These same 45 students returned to 'Wega High in the fall of '46 as so phisticated and sober seniors Cthis oplnion may vary ir certain instances! A number of seniors have brought themselves honor and recognition in various fields Marlyn Hahn won first place in the F F A Oratory contest, and Delores Burow was elected Homecoming Queen Our class was represented on the basketball team by Duane Giloertson, Don Lautenschlager, Leon Brasch, and Alvin Thiel who were fi t fi Man seniors were also active in forensics, glee club, mixed on the rs ve y chorus, band, dramatics club, and many other extra curricular activities Arnold L 1 H feld as our officers and Kempf, Don Lautenschlager, Elena Sappino, and ou s erz , Mr Winch and Mr Ketchum as our class advisers helped us over the last crucial barriers to our diplomas To some of us this diploma is just another sheet of paper, but to the ma jority of us it is,a reward for the four years of faithful work we have put in under the urging, inspiration, and guidance of our teachers for which we are ever grateful Page 3 I' L1 x J 1 . y .
