ational Honor Society N- W NHS Pres. John Hassell, Vice-Pres. Bob- by Shackelford, and Sec.!Treas. Cheval Thomas. NATIONAL S HONOR SOSIETY F 'X S 1 Q2 K Q5 l Vs Lf National Honor Society membership requirements changed this year. According to National Headquarters, membership could no longer be based solely on grade point average. Four ideals were considered as the basis for selection, and no stu- dent was inducted simply because of a high academic average. The National Honor Society strives to recognize the total stu- dent, one who excels in all of these areas: scholarship, leader- ship, service and character. Therefore, these criteria were used in determining membership eligibility. The Faculty Council, which consisted of one administrator, the chapter advisor and four faculty members, was responsi- ble for determining the eligibility and the selection of students into the Wewoka Chapter of the National Honor Society. The Council considered all students in grades 10-12 who had ac- cumulated a 3.1 grade point average. Students meeting this scholastic requirement were further evaluated on the basis of leadership, service and character as indicated on a Student Activity Form that each candidate submitted. After this screening process by the Faculty Council, prospective members had to fulfill National Headquarters' requirement concerning completion of a community or school service pro- ject. Candidates who completed their projects were inducted into NHS during a special ceremony. The students picturd on this page have met the initial screening criteria mentioned above. At the time this book wgnt to press, they had not completed their service projects 1:-.f undergone induction.
