The staff couldn't let the opportunity go by to add a miscellaneous page about the senior class. Let's drop in first on a per- formance of the senior play, DOWN TO EARTH. Cast pictures appear at right. At top right are Lanny Anderson, Hank Dotson, Geraldine Waddle, and Betty Brooks, angels returned to earth. Center picture shows Marilyn Aldridge, Jerry Emmons, and Charles Asbill, standing, and Virginia Gar- rett seated. Standing in the lower picture are Marilyn Belford, Rosalie Roff, and Robert Parris. Seated are Paul Huser, and Jone Yan- dell. The seniors supported our publications bet- ter than any other class. The seniors had 85 per cent of the class subscribing to the Little Tiger newspaper and TOO per cent sub- scribihg to the annual. In the athletic department, the seniors played a leading role. The top eight players on the basketball team are seniors. The starting lineup on the football team con- tain several seniors. As this book goes to press, senior debaters Jone Yandell and Rosalie Roff, have been two of four debaters carrying home two tournament trophies. Because of these and many, many other activities the seniors have participated in, we of the staff feel that the seniors of 1954 have been an active class worthy of recogni- tion in the Tiger. Money from the concessions helps pay for the iunior-senior banquet. The iuniors have so many VlP's in athletics, music, drama, speech, and student government that there's not enough space to mention all their activities. We'Il list a few on this and the next three pages. Geraldine Ackenhausen and Nancy Chaney are staff members. Nancy's a first chair flutist, also. Kenneth Barbre is an all-round athlete and was a one-man track team in '53. Lynn Biggers is a debater, band member, S. C. secretary. Robin Coleman is one of the Brains of the class. The year 1953-54 will go down in the annals of Wewoka High School as a memorable year. lt was then that Wewoka High School was the host to the State Student Council Convention, December 3-5. Youth Wants an Answer was the theme of the convention, over which Kathryn Harper, State Stu- dent Council President, presided. While recollecting scenes from the convention, there message and ponderous thoughts brought to us by Dr. Frank Spencer, President of East Central State College, in his address on the theme, and Frank Streetman's gay, rollicking, humor in his address at the banquet Friday night. Ot course, there was the convention itself, where delegates learned the problems of Student Council government, and the committees where problems that face teen-agers were discussed. But what stands out vividly in our memories are . . . the fun enjoyed at the social mixer Thursday night . . . the work and aid given by students and mem- bers of the Student Council in decorating for the banquet and by citizens ot Wewoka who opened their homes to delegates . . . and the crowning glory of the banquet and dance Friday night. By the end of the year the Art Club was steadily regaining much of the glory of its predecessor, which was a local chapter of the National interscholastic Art Society. Six of the Art Club's members became members of this national high school art society: Charles Johnson, Bill Barbre, John Leitka, Wendell Morton, Terrell Knight, and Kathryn Ragsdale. The Art Club instilled a deeper appreciation for and realization of the value of art in the lives of its members through a program in which members studied phases of poster designing, designing, commercial art, still life drawing, landscape painting, figure draw- ing, copper tooling, and other crafts. More advanced students studied oil and water coloring, and the club took a trip in April into the country for landscape and charcoal sketching. In March the club visited St. Gregory's art museum and held an art exhibit in April. Besides promoting the regular art program, the Art Club was in constant demand by other W.H.S. departments, activities, and organizations-another of its policies. Members designed LITTLE TIGER subscription posters, senior, Thespian, and iunior play post- ers, designed favors, place cards, and table decorations for the football, student council convention banquets, and Wendell Mor- ton designed and tooled in copper the crown for the football queen. Seated in front of an exhibit of ink sketches and posters are some members of the Art Club: Robert Coursey, Bill Barbre, Frances Hair, Lois Davis, Virginia Garrett, Terrell Knight, and Mildred Benton working on Christmas presents and posters.
