FEACHERS PAGE OUR, PR-IMCIPAL To me has fallen the grand privilege of introducing your 1958 yearbook. I must therefore speak to you, the annual staff, and your sponsor a word of commendation for this volume which is about to be opened for very critical evaluation. This book is recommended for a variety of reasons: youthful enthusiasm; vivid portrayal of school activities; touches of human frailties; comfort in later years; a product of untiring effort and perseverance. , I have known the staff members quite well, in their good moods and in their bad, in their successes and in their failures I have here seen them rise to heights ot am- bitious achievement rarely attained by others. . , Commendation is extended the entire student body, without whose unbiased co- operation this volume would not have been possible. Age can perform the possible; youth, the impossible. So nigh is grandeur to our dust. So near is God to man When duty whispers low ' thou must, The youth replies, lean. I. C. Mayfield, Jr. We, the 1958 Gator Staff, would like to dedicate this YEARBOOK to our TEACHERS and PARENTS. ' For your time, patience, and your untiring efforts to help us in improving ourselves, we want to express our deepest appreciation. Special thanks goes to MR. and MRS. MAYFIELD, who have been exception' ally helpful in working with us in all of our activities. Thanks to both of you who will forever remain in our memories. t ati SENIORS CAROLYN SUE HALMAN Student Council 2,3.4, Secretary 2,4; Beta Club 2,3,4; F.H.A. 1; Dramatics Club 1; Band 1,2,3,4, Vice-President 3, Majorette Captain 3,4, Drum Majorette 4; Gator Tale 3; Annual Staff 4; Class Plays 3,4; Class Secretary 3; Class President 4. Woll. The band has, in these years, attained the reputation of being one of the best bands in our class. We have attended the District Band Festival for five years. Band Day for four years, and last year we went to the State Band Festival where we were highly rated. In 1955 we attended the Gator Growl. BAND HISTORY The marching band consists of 30 marching members and 8 Twirlers — four ot which are Seniors. These four Seniors are: Broward Brogdon, Clay Cox, Carol Sue Halman, and Jeanie Longshore. Jeanie is the only band member who has been in the band since its organization. Band Directors in this area feel that we have set an example for other small schools to follow. We are all proud of our Band and its accomplishments. SEATED: Billy Burnham. Carolyn Watson.
