TRACK SQUAD The Wethersfield Flying Geese last year had a young and inexperienced team, but they built up their team for the 1959 season. In the Blackhawk Conference meet the Geese placed fourth. In the regular season the squac ended up with a 3 and 3 record. Gary Geirnaeirt was the leading scorer of the Flying Geese. Gary, only a Sophomore, also took first place in the 440 yard dash in the Blackhawk Conference meet. Kirby Knutson was another good scorer for the Geese. He jumped better than 21 feet in the broad jump. This year the Geese will have a team which consists mostly of seniors. The Geese should have more experi- ence and a better track season this year. BASEBALL CHAMPS For the last three years, the Geese have succeeded in bringing the Blackhawk Conference trophy in baseball back to W, H. S. The Geese defeated the Wyoming Indians for the second straight year and gained the title. In order for the Geese to play Wyoming for the Champion- ship, they had to defeat Bradford, Walnut, and Gnlva, which they did to gain the title of their division. In the championship game, the Flying Geese defeated the Indians by a score of 8 to 2. Gordon VanWaes was the winning pitcher of the game, with a very good pitching record of 6 wins and losses, his brother, Dick, had a 3 and 3 record. In the title game, the big hitters for the Geese were Mickey Lind and Dick VanWaes, each collecting 2 hits. FIRST ROW: Coach Reeves, J. Gerber, D. Behnke, M. Lind, J. Culver, B. Vancil, S.
