BASEB LL iQ W F FIRST ROW Coach Ed Green M1ke Somers Joe Zonkel Emrl Anthony John Borota and Gordon Van Waes SECOND ROW Joe Labed1s Mickey Shmkevrch J1m Golden Phrl Morrow Jerry Frey Barry Zonkel Rex Rosenow Mickey L1nd Denny DeCraene and Rodney Suck BLACKHAWK CHAMPIONS For the second straight year the baseball team brought home the conference trophy beating Wyoming by the score of 5 to 2 in the championship game The Geese were forced into a playoff for the northern division title when they were beaten by Galva The northern division race at the end of the regular scheduled games ended in a three way tie between Wethersfield, Walnut, and Galva All three had won 2 and lost I The Geese beat Walnut I0 to 0 and Galva I0 to I ID the play off games to win the division title and went on to beat Wyoming In the ploy-off game against Walnut, Mickey Shinkevich pitched a no-hit game for the Geese. It was the second no hit gome of the year for the Geese as Gordon Van Waes pitched one early in the season against Atkinson. Also in the play-off games John Borota hit a home run against Walnut, Shinkevich got three hits against Galva, and Von Waes, Emil Anthony, and Jerry Frey got two hits against Galva. Van Waes was the winning pitcher against Galva. In the title game, Barry Zonkel pitched against Wyoming for the second time and beat them again. John Borota drove in the tallies to put the Geese ahead to stay. Those with two hits were Anthony, Shinkevich, Zonkel, and Borota. The Wethersfield season record was TO wins and 2 losses.
