Our class has been a most irregular one and has undergone varied conditions ln our Freshman year the size of our class became considerably larger by the addition of the last ninth grade to come from Rocky Hill to Wethersfield In sports the girls produced successful teams which were soccer and basketball champions The boys broke a precedent by placina several classmates on the varsity teams As Sophomores we put on the Hop which was our first class activity with Mr Barnes as faculty advisor The boys interclass basketball team won the championship for the first time and the class gave some excellent players for varsity material As Iuniors the Prom was successful and the boys won the lnterclass Basketball Championship again Many classmates went intc the armed forces this year depleting the boys ranks Mr Adams also had to leave for the Army after a year of being our class advisor Some boys Went from our school to Boys State where Everett Loveland was elected Goverror When we hit the top as Seniors our class which already seemd to have many revolutionary traits broke long tradition in electing an able girl as President The oenio Plays vent off with a bana having made use of some talented material The Freshman Reception favorably ushered in the social year The Elm produ tion ha been a test of many classmates ability This year many more have weaxered our cla s by ans ering our countrys call with anxiety We hope that by the time th s book is publ shed our class will be x eil on t e x ay to a d a sriccess .il climax o our many o t ate days i hich x e have load at Wethersfield ld gh School At thi poirt e extend our best s es and t anks to me c o and faculty who have labored for the best efforts of our class O , . , , , 4 ' ,. , Y A . . The Elm Leaves is now published twice monthly right here in school. Mr. McKniff and Mr. Shipp are the faculty advisors. Fire Squad-The Fire Squad acts as Cf traffic squad during fire drills, seeing that windows are closed and that everyone is out of the building. Its members also check the alarms, extinguishers, and other equipment every so often to see that they are in perfect order. Mr. Parker is the faculty advisor, The Latin Club under the direction of Miss Inman is a monthly highlight to those students who maintain an A or B average. The object of these meetings is to learn as much as possible about the Roman people and their way of life. The Leaders' Club is open to junior and senior girls whose marks are average or above. They are doing a fine job in gym classes, helping Miss Curtis, our director of physical education. But Miss Fader has carried on individual work with club members who are interested in advanced skills. Of special interest are the attempts for the Connecticut Scholastic Contest. This year's junior class has a great deal of promise. The Student Council, under the guidance of Mr. Fuller, has been very active this year with Dorothy Almquist as President, and Mary Alice Davis as Secretary-Treasurer. The to-be students from Rocky Hill were enter- tained at an afternoon basketball game, and roller skating parties were resumed. The Council took a day off to visit sister schools throughout the state. New records were purchased for an informal dance held on December 27 and for noon-time dancing. In the early spring a dance for boys in school who will be entering the service will be given by the Student Council and the Iunior and Sophomore classes. The Senior Glee Club gave a program of Christmas music in December. They are now planning a concert to be given with the orchestra in the spring. Girls ol the U. S. A. under the direction of Miss Colson starred Nancy Chittenden, Betty May, Lorna Prentice, Sue Hahn, Cynthia Tribou, Iune Griswold, and Olive Clark. Miss Viets selected the dramatic Two Crooks and a Lady with Anne Le- Crenier taking the lead, Richard Donnelly and Beulah Blease as the Crooks, and Kay Mack as the maid. Mr. Wilson assumed responsibility for the hila- rious comedy Daisy Won't Tell about two newspaper reporters, each trying to outwit the other.
