Each star in the universe shines as differently as each student’s personality in a school, but, just as it takes ail of the stars to make up the universe, it takes all of the students to make up a school. 2 Each of us possesses some characteristic that makes us different from everyone else. These traits are the things that make everyone a star, in his own way. 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 11 TEACHERS 12 STUDENTS 13 14 15 Dare to be different; life is so full Of people who follow the same push-and-pull, Poor, plodding people who, other than name, Try to pretend they’re exactly the same. God made men different; there never will be A replica soul made of you or of me. The charm — the glory of all creation Rests on this very deviation. Your charm — your own glory, too, Lies in being uniquely you — Lies in being true to your best, That part of you different from all the rest. from Hold To Your Dream, by Helen Lowrie Marshall £ TABLE OF CONTENTS DIVISIONS DEDICATION CLASSES ADMINISTRATION FEATURES SPORTS CLUBS EDITORS’ NOTE ADS PAGE 20 22 87 97 III 141 159 160 ADD-A-BEADSI CHARM HOLDERSI VELOURSI ELECTRONIC GAMESI CAMAROS AND TRANS AMSI STYLISHI DISCOI NBC’s SATURDAY LIVE IZODI THE STYLEI DEDICATION The dedication of the 1980 WILDCAT is not only an honor but also a way of recognizing in a special way someone who has given of their time and talent to Westwood. MRS. PEGGY BRAUN It has been said that a true friend is one who seeks to help, not to be helped. It has also been said that a true friend is one who will help another in need. If all this is true then the recipi- ent of this honor is truly a friend to Westwood. Because she helps and gives of her time, she could be classified as a worker, which the dic- tionary defines as a person who works for a cause. The many extra hours of hard work she has contributed for many causes, such as Miss Westwood” and Homecoming , have proven her to be dependable, reliable, and dedicated. During her three years at Westwood she has been a tremendous help in many projects which have required extensive and complicated art work. With all this in mind, the 1979-1980 Westwood Annual Staff would like to dedicate the 1980 WILDCAT to someone who has truly been a friend, when one was needed Mrs. Braun not only designed and painted the beautifully colored backdrops used for Miss Westwood”, but she designed and made the costumes worn by the muppet characters. She also designed the posters and programs used for the pageant. Without her help the pageant would not have been the extravagant produc- tion it was. Mrs. Braun has been very active in projects with the Student Government, which she spon- sors. With her guidance this club has been in- volved with activities concerning the improve- ment of Westwood. The club also sponsors the Homecoming Dance, which is always a success due to her help. Even though Mrs. Braun is always busy helping with extracurricular activities, she always de- votes her full attention to the Art, Shop, Com- munications, and Mechanical Drawing classes she teaches. Mrs. Braun’s help with such activities as Miss Westwood” and Homecoming” have made her a true friend to the Annual Staff and the whole student body, because of her talented work makes one have a greater impression of Westwood. 21 WESTWOOD THE CLASS Robert John Akridge Robert Lee Bostick William David Bostick, Sr. Bradley Scott Brinkley Douglas Edwin Brown Shari Lyn Carter Gregory Earl Cooper Joel Robert Daughtry David Laurence Edwards Leila Diane Faircloth Debra Lynn Feingold Randall Charles Gay Mary Lynn Gurley Tammy Rena Hattaway Gregory Lanier Flays John Edward Hilliard Kenneth Lawrence Hilliard Traci Irvin Deborah Lynne Johnson Jimmy Elton Lee PRESENTS OF 1980 Renee Lodge Elizabeth Ann McCook Andrew Stephen Palmer Kenneth Palmer Betty Frances Parker Milton Boyce Powell Alonzo Thurman Rigsby Sandra Regina Roach Thomas Alton Rogers Krista Nell Royal Joseph Wayne Shiver Stacey Daryl Shiver Jacob Doyle Singleton Bjorn Johan Sjoquist Shannon Smith John Thomas Solomon Ernest Wallace Swilley Kevin Patrick Swindle Frank Starling Twitty Lisa Williams MOST TALENTED LISA WILLIAMS TOM SOLOMON MOST ATHLETIC KRISTA ROYAL DOYLE SINGLETON 31 32 AGNV 35 Akridge. Even though the staff was constantly con- fronted with many trying decisions, we managed to meet these problems head-on and solve them. For this reason I would like to thank the other staff members for their hard work. I would like to say a special thank-you to Mrs. Betsy Caldwell for her guidance and always being there when we needed her. I would also like to thank Mrs. Betty Lowe and the business staff for making the financing of the 1980 WILDCAT possible. As one of the co-editors of the ’79-'80 annual. I would like to express my appreciation to the en- tire staff for working so hard to meet deadlines, to Mrs. Lowe and the business staff for raising mon- ey needed for the annual, to Mrs Caldwell for her fantastic leadership, and to the hardest worker of all. my co-editor and friend. Fran Parker. Many problems arose during the year, but were finally straightened out with the aid of the entire staff. I have enjoyed working with these people, and I hope that, together, we have produced an annual that you will enjoy. 159 BUSINESS PATRONS Brooks Pecan Company Camilla Builders Supply Clerk of Superior Court Cochran Construction Company Dairy Queen Brazier Estelle’s Ice Cream Parlor Mrs. Florence I.
