Before Thanksgiving, the Playmakers began the season with a one-act comedy, Antic Spring, by Robert Nail. The trials and tribulations of six typical high school young people on a picnic provided great merriment for both the elementary and high school students. Preparing for the district One-Act Play Festival the group presented in January a short novel play by Murray Schisgal entitled Memorial Day . This play, with only two characters, offered a real challenge to our actors, Eugenia Douglas and William Holton, as it presented many varied emotional reactions. Outstanding Tri-Hi-Y member: Beth Vann 109 Ill Babs Goidner Mathematics Science Award Jeanie Floyd - General Excellence Graduation Speaker The Honorable H. E. Carswell 114 PROPHECY The other day while I was polishing a dish, A genie appeared and said, ''Give me your wish. I thought for a moment and then replied, Let's go for a 'Magic Carpet Ride!' No sooner had we taken off from the floor. Than we saw the Seniors of '74. I turned to the Genie and told him my aim. We veered to the left and neared a door. That said Enter the year 1994. As we entered the door we looked all around. And these were the sights and surprises we found. A love lorn column Joey Draffin did start To lighten the sorrow of a female heart. Write in your problems, however many. And Joey promises to add to them plenty. Cathy's from the country, but that don't spoil her form She's cruising through Camilla, waving up a storm. We see Babs lying in the sun. She shed the habit that made her a nun. She's always up for something new Next, she's going to be a guru. Whatever happened to Gladys Knight? She and Charlie got in a fight. The crowd all gathered to see the duel. Who would come out super cool? He ruled out Gladys and got real hip. Now its Charlie Mathews and the Pips. Ole Jon Brim - a temper had he. He's serving time in the penitentiary. What did he do -- Oh! what a whooper. He got mad and hung Berta Booper. My, what a day when our local mortician Butch, got himself into such a condition. Instead when the time for the funeral was slated They found poor Berta had been cremated. Joanie hates to be called the queen. What she hates even more is a date that makes a scene. So, since with many men she likes to mingle, We find Joanie still is single. Jody's in the big game losing his life. He's hocked all his trophies and now it's his wife, Poker's always been his downfall. But cheatin' sho' nuff cost him his all. When you see Libbys, Libbys, Libbys, On the label, label, label. You see Pat and all the kids Around the table, table, table. Announcer's voice: Now let's go to the roller derby in Los Angeles We have in this round - Big Rick Shiver and Pompous Pam Jones against 747 and Tiny Earline. Together they make quite a good team. Lanair and a beauty parlor were once Nell's song. Whatever happened - what went wrong? She opened a parlor in a brand new mall, Ruth went in first and came out bald. Look at the crowd, they're all in a dash. They're trying to get ready 'cause here comes Flash. She's hither and dither, skipping and hopping. Look at Charlotte with her flashbulbs popping. Anyone seen Teena's taxi in town? Walter's always sure to be around. He's her faithful companion in the house or yard. He follows her around like a sweet St. Bernard. Look! Look! There in the new car. It's Eugenia, the movie star. She went to Hollywood to seek her fame Too bad no one remembers her name. We look down on Marcus as we fly through the air. He's become a gas station millionaire. He didn't get to where he's at by lying on his back Now he's sporting around a brand new Cadillac. Because of something startling Which Norma will do. Her name will be listed with The greats in WHO'S WHO. Jeanie's gone to Spain with the best intention Of seeing Mr. Bertschi at the Spanish convention. True love at Westwood was ignited, To be rekindled when he is signted. Listen to the beat, listen to the beat! Pam Kelly's in a band and it's not Canned Heat. It's not the Beatles or the Mothers It's the one and only Allman Brothers. Ruth weaves, and speeds, and screeches Until her distination she reaches She drives reckless, what the heck. Everyone knows she won't have a wreck. We leave our Magic Carpet and lay down our spy glass. It seems our trip has ended. We have looked in on your class. To you, the Seniors of '74, We leave you standing at a door. A door that leads to hunger an d strife Or one that leads to love and life. The road you choose is left up to you, What you make of yourself is left there, too. We wish for you the best that you can find ; Happiness, love, and peace of mind. Now Seniors, take this warning, though your names are on the sun. The Juniors are just behind you. And We've Only Just Begun! 116 117 Last Will and Testament We, the Senior Class of 1974, having been thoroughly examined and tested by capable psy- chiatrists and brain specialists and pronounced reasonably sane and able to negotiate such an important document, do hereby execute and declare this to be our Last Will and Testament, and do hereby declare all previous wills if any, or promises made by us, individually or collectively, verbally or written, to be null and void. We bequeath to our parents our deepest gratitude for all the sacrifices they have made in our behalf, in order that we may be given an education to fit us for our life careers. To the faculty we bequeath our sincere apologies for all the headaches and heartaches that they may have suffered in the training and developing of our youthful minds! We realize that it has been a tremendous task — but they have accomplished wonderful results — as you can see for yourselves! We now have some tokens for some of our worthy faculty: To Mrs. Adams, we leave a tennis team with championship serves and a case of Tabs to calm her nerves. To Mrs. Moore, we leave a pacifier, in hopes that it will satisfy her. To Mr. Berryman, who is not very strict with his classes, we leave a more promising career as manager of a factory for green sunglasses. To Mrs. Palmer, from her biology, chemistry, and science classes all, we leave a slimy frog, big and tall. To Mrs. Cooper, we leave an extra difficult task, the job of teaching pronunciation to the Senior English class. To Mrs. Parker, who made us physically fit; We leave a trampoline, gym suit, and a baseball mitt. To Mrs. Floyd in Room 113, we leave a new pinata to fulfill her dream. To Mrs. Williams, who is calm and shy, we leave the unruly Tri-Hi-Y. To Coach Nelson, The Yankee Doodle who thinks he's a dandy, we leave a plate of grits and a bottle of brandy. To Coach Hicks, who had to sweep a lot of gym floors, we leave an automatic broom to help with his chores. To Mrs. Sandifar, who likes to have everything neat and in place, we leave the memory of the Senior Class, which we're sure she'd like to erase. To Mr. Sandifar, who can't keep things straight; we leave some bell-bottomed jeans and a muscle shirt to bring him up to date. We also leave him a tape recorder, so he can remember what he oughta. We make several bequests to the Juniors as a whole. They consist of some of the habits in which we have indulged during class time, namely: gum chewing, eating in class, flirting, snickering, and many more. They will be of no more use to us as a class, but in passing them on, we advise that they be used with extreme caution. We do not wish to stir up any friction between faculty and the incoming seniors, even if we, ourselves, did somehow get away with them. We bequeath the following gifts from certain individuals in our own class to the individuals of the Junior class: 118 Charlie Mathews, who is known for his wild clothes of pinks, purples, and blues leaves to Vic Greene a pair of his high stacked shoes. Libby, who is well versed in perpendicular lines, theorems, and triangle QRT, leaves to Fran all the formulas for trigonometry. Marcus leaves to David the free use of the gas station, so he can still joy ride even if we have to ration. Cathy Cross, who is a very good cook, leaves to Kitty Dunn her Betty Crocker Cook Book. Jeanie leaves to Lauta, who combs her hair a lot, a compact make-up mirror for primping on the spot. Butch leaves to Cochran his pair of quiet basketball shoes for tipping, so he can sneak into his room, before his mother knows he's been nipping. Joey Draffin leaves his partying times and bad influence to Carey Phelps. Joey has set an amazing (hiccup) record, but we fear that Carey will have topped him by next year. Teena leaves to Susan a pencil and pad, so she can write a book on all the shorthand experiences they've had. As was left to Norma in '73, she leaves The Sensuous Woman to Donna as a key. As was left to Marcus by Tim, Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex, But Were Afraid to Ask is left to Lauch, to aid him. To William from Jody, the Wildcat superstar, we leave the challenge to surpass Jody's record, for he's the best candidate by far. To Sarah Palmer, who never speaks out in class, Eugenia leaves the techniques she has used in the past. To Gloria, Joanie leaves the best tennis racket in the land, so that she, like Joanie, can improve her backhand. The Senior Class leaves to the junior who thought he was a senior, Tom Cobb, the negotiation of senior privileges as his new job. Jody leaves to Frank, before his image fades, his academic learning and his excellent grades. To calm Beth Brewer's boisterous ways, Pam Kelly leaves a few pointers on how to behave. From the seniors in Short Story to Troy Davis with his smart aleck smirk, we leave a book entitled How to Become a Jerk. Joey leaves to Stevie his little black book, so if he ever needs a date, he won't have far to look. From Pam Jones to Pam Tomlinson, who travels far, we leave a set of tires and some bug spray for her car. To Terry Blewett from Ruth, a permanent wave so she can make her hair behave. Ricky leaves to E.B. something to help him catch a dame, a shiny black alligator belt without his name. Charlotte leaves to Denise, who thinks studying is a bore, the hope that she might make an even better SAT score. Jon, who likes sports best of all, leaves to Phillip a book on how to play baseball. Babs, who in taking piano, wasted many years, leaves to Becky her sheet music, ability, and many tears. From everyone to Bill, we leave a trip to Mississippi to pick a show steer, maybe this will help him have a Grand Champion next year. Nell borrowed from Lanair something special for Tim, she is sure a John Deere Tractor is the perfect gift for him. Just out of the lab after many tests, Ricky leaves to Eddie his tangle tamer invention for all the hair on his chest. Jon Brim, a fine car dealer, leaves to Dana his sleek and shiny four wheeler. To Rodney, Pam Kelly leaves the hospital switchboard, she hopes that he won't choke himself with the cords. To Lucretia from Ruth we leave a trip to Screen Gems studio to audition for To Tell the Truth. We saved this special one for last . . . To Mrs. McNair, whom we all adore, we leave this fond remembrance from the class of '74: To the lady who a Iways looks for the best, and tries to be fair even when we are pests. To the one who understands us all, because without her there we surely would fall. She is faithful to this class without slight, and works unendingly for us with all her might. We will always be thankful to her for the way in which she has helped us grow. Mrs. McNair, we'll never forget you, because we love you so. In witness thereof we, the Class of 1974, have set our hand and seal on this tenth day of May, in the year 1974. 119 Assuming the responsibility of editing the 1974 WILDCAT is probably the most difficult and exciting responsibility I have ever undertaken. Even though I realize that some will find fault, I sincerely hope that this annual will help you to recapture and relive many exciting moments here at Westwood -- whether it be the football games, basketball games. Spring Dance, Halloween Carnival, Homecoming, Junior-Senior, final exams, or graduation. I would like to thank all of my staff especially the sectional editors. They helped to make this annual a memorable one by spending time and thought and adding something extra to their individual sections. In the years to come this annual will be a book of treasured memories for you. My staff and I hope that you will enjoy this book as much as we enjoyed its preparation.
