The primary aim of the club is not to produce professional actors and actresses but to stimulate creative abilities and to develop inner resources that lead to an enriched life which is so necessary in our world of cold science and hard fact. In belonging to a group that works toward a creative goal, students develop qualities that promote maturity: teamwork, co-operation, and dependability. Personal growth is assured as students gain confidence and poise from frequent participation. Improved body co-ordination and vocal flexibility that young people need for everyday com- munication also result from active participation in the Playmakers. We think that our projects this year have been worthwhile and satisfying activities. Our first production was the comedy farce, “The Shoemaker’s Wife’’, with Reggie Bostick, Chip Harper, and Kitty Dunn. Our Christmas play, “The Shoemaker’s Guest”, included a chorus plus a large cast centered on the shoemaker, Tim Davis. “The Sand- box”, a drama by Edward Albee, was our spring production, with the following seniors in the cast: Chip Harper, Ann Kelly, Royden Hunnewell, Ava Griner, and Tim Davis. This play won two trophies for the school placing first in District and second in state competition. Many of our Playmakers profited from an improvisational workshop taught by Chuck Doolittle, director of Albany Little Theater. Members also gained deeper insight into people by studying characterization in numerous plays presented by the Albany Little Theater group. To conclude our year on a high note, we had a very successful talent show. 55 TRI-HI-Y President - Eugenia Douglas Vice President - Libby Rozier Secretary - Lauta Walker Treasurer - Joanie Smithwick Community Chairman - Babs Goldner School Project Chairman - Jeanie Floyd Publicity Chairman - Ruth Collins Chaplain - Charlotte Taylor Sponsor - Mrs. Shalmy 1. Griner Valedictory Medal Ava K. Griner English and Literature Award 106 SENIOR WILL We the seniors of the 1973, being of sound mind and body, short hair and long dresses, do leave our good moral conduct, good behavior, good grades, and our most treasured possessions to those who deserve them most. Reggie Bostick, with high hopes, leaves Pam Jones his successful patch of cantalopes. Diane Collins leaves to Carmen, her quiet ways, which are charmin. Jon Brim receives from Rodney his cricket. That's right! We hope it will please his appetite. Joe Luke leaves his laugh to Ruth, It fits her well and that's the truth. To Babs, Ann Kelly bequeaths her nude Alice Cooper sheets. To those of you who do not know, Rickey Shiver lost his toe. We found a donor in Steven, to make both Rickey's feet even. Jeanie Floyd receives a pair of bell-bottom pants from Royden Hunneywell. We're sure her new hot pants will fit swell. To Pam Kelly from Diane, a special treat, a bag of biddy feed for her to eat. Royden Hunneywell with great agility, leaves Teena his fielding ability. To Eugenia from Chip, who really makes the grade. His study habits and all the A's he has made. Joe Dunagan to Nell Lane bequeaths the Courier with great relief. Ava leaves Marty a ribbon for his hair. If this doesn't work we suggest a bottle of Nair. To our Women Libbers, Janice and Livia, Rodney leaves his grease monkey suit and his tools to boot. As was left to Ava in '72, The Sensous Woman is left to Norma, Good luck to you too. As was left to Tim in '72 Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex, But Were Afraid to Ask, is left to Marcus to see him through. Ann leaves to Cathy her spastic coordination May she use it with determination. The Senior Class leaves to Joanie who has great charm, the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm. Joe Luke leaves Charlotte His muffler loud, to make her car stand out in a crowd. The Senior Class leaves Melanie Cain some 6-12 for her mosquito pain. To Larkie from Royden, the Senior Class Presidency. From the Junior Class she was impeached but the Senior Class is still in reach. Since we are leaving so nice and sweet, we the seniors, every girl and boy. Leave these for the teachers to enjoy. From all the seniors in typing, to Mrs. Adams, a five minute timing. To Mrs. Shalmy, from every scholar a PA so she won't have to holler. To Mrs. Cooper a new drama workshop We hope this one won't be a flop. To Mr. Bertschi a teaching aid a longuage lab to help the grade. To Mrs. Vann, who help make this a success, in two hours a great big mess. To Mrs. Sandifar, who's quite contrary, her annual and library. To Mrs. McNair who's precious and Fair, we leave the juniors in her tender care. To Mr. Sandifar, who sticks to the rules, we leave a measuring tape and some barbering tools. 107 If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk on one turn of pitch-and-toss. And lose and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss; 108 If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, ours is the earth and everthing that's in it. And - which is more - you'll be a man, my son! — Rudyard Kipling 109 PROPHECY When I got invited to this banquet tonight, I knew my entertaining had to be just right. They asked me for a class prophecy, you know- -wanted me to say which way the Seniors will go. So, I took myself a stroll the other day Across the streets of this U.S.A. You'll never believe what I did see- Yes sir The Senior Class of '73! Course it was 25 years from now. How'd I do that? I'm magic, somehow. I say the sign -1 looked at it straight- It said, This year is 1998. AND THIS IS WHAT I SAW: Reggie Bostick hasn't slowed down his wheel He passed me, flying low in his automobile At three P.M. he was on his way To open his Bunny club in L.A. In New York, a new star of TV Has a money making contract with NBC. Tim Davis, his face all aglow, Making bubbles for the Lawrence Welk Show. This lady crossed my path every day or so. Seems she is always on the go Making speeches across the nation. Deanne Collins, president of Women's Liberation. In Houston, Billy Graham's meeting was advertised I took my seat and much to my surprise As the organ played a fitting selection, There was Rodney Sharp - taking up collection. Mark Spitz - who loves himself best of all - Is retiring from swimming, come next fall. But U.S. Olympics have lots of hope. To take his place they have Steve Pope. 110 It really was no big surprise to me On my 1998 tour to see Ann Kelly - with her love for noise - Teaching yells in a cheer leader's school for boys. Royden Hunnewell's claim to fame is unique. He made it with that marvelous physique With his shoulders so wide and waist so lean. He models for Mr. America Magazine. And then, there's your friend, Joe Dunagan. Who - each election year - does run (again). He'll win one day, since his intent Is to be USA president. Camilla has given TV another star. Ava Griner's famous near and far On the Comet commercia I she has a big scene. As the original lady plumber, Josephine. It's hard to believe, but true, they say. The Police Chief in Camilla retired today. With his respect for the law and ability to hustle, Joe Luke has replaced Tom Ed Fussell Saw Chip Harper sitting on the river bank; A frown on his forehead - his face a little blank - With so much talent, he is still confused About which profession he should choose. To you, the Seniors of '73 I leave this thought - to you from me. Happiness is really the name of the game - Remember that when you're seeking fame. It's good to be famous, but always be true To those things in life that mean most to you. Don't want to sound corny - or square - or trite; But our best wishes come straight from our hearts tonight. -Virginia McMinn 111 EPILOGUE It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything be- fore us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way— — Charles Dickens 1 12 The staff of the 1973 Wildcat would like to thank the patrons and the advertisers on the following pages for their support.
