HISTORY When our Junior year was coming to a close, any of us found that it was time to start preparing r college by taking the ACT test. Time was passing ickly now and soon we would be Seniors. We were oving up in the world, for soon it was graduation We had waited our turn and finally it was time take charge. ln June of 1980, many of the Junior dressed in their finest to hold the hoops and the class of 1980 farewell. Our Junior year was definitely a year to be It was a year of hard classes, lots of and papers, and quite a few parties. As of us will remember, the Rez and Black Falls were very popular places. Year September 1980 and we're Seniors at last. We traveled a long way to get there, but we had it. Finally there was no one above us, and were three classes below us. Had we really that small when we were Freshman? Sandy Hebert had taken over as Student Council for the Class of '81 with Cathy as President, Corinne Ftintamaki as Vice-President, Cheryl Frederickson as Treasurer, and Lori Kjellman as Secretary. When Homecoming rolled around for the last time for us, our class once again showed its spirit by win- ning the Pep Jug for the third and final time. As seniors, we also had the hard choice of choosing the Homecoming King and Queen. After much thought by the student body, Dave Lakanen and Lori Kjellman were crowned. Their court consisted of Dave Deloria and Sue Anderson, Lee Hamari and Amy Luke, and Jim Scott and Judy Baldini. Though we lost our Homecoming game to Iron Mountain, everyone had a good time at the dance with High Street as our band. Before the fall of 1980 turned in to winter, our boys' cross-country team had won the U.P. Cham- pionship and the girls' basketball team won the District Championship and achieved the best record in the history of Westwood girls' basketball teams with 17 wins and 5 losses. As winter came, Westwood held on to its reputation of having a fine boys' basketball team also. Now that the reality of graduation was beginning to hit, many people were busy applying to colleges and for scholarships, and deciding on the future careers. We only had a half of a year of high school left. Time was going by faster than expected. As winter was slowly leaving us and spring came, we were all excited for graduation. Our last Prom had gone by, and we had our Senior Banquet and the day consisted of a few classes and graduation prac- tice. Only a few more days and another chapter of our lives would be over. On the night of graduation there was a mixture of emotions. As we got ready, there was much laughter and tears, but as the ceremony started, everyone was quiet, deep in their own thoughts. lt seemed like just yesterday that we were Freshman looking for- ward to a new school. ui seniors 33
