Reading, writing, understand- ing, and speaking are all empha- sized. In the process of learning a foreign language, students also have the opportunity to study about a country ' s culture thus broadening their language experi- ences. ALTERNATIVE PROGRAM Mrs. Ann Matteson % h. Special Education Under the direction of Mrs. Su- san Bomstein, the Special Ser- vices at Westwood High provided the necessary assistance for those students with learning dis- abilities and for those with a need for support services in or- der to be more successful in the classroom. The Class of 1988 thanks this faithful staff for its hard work and devotion to this program. Learning Center Mrs. Carol Rosengarten, Mrs. Anna Runci, and aides, Mrs. Ann Mullen and Mrs. Christine Mul- len, helped students with learn- ing disabilities meet the academ- ic demands at Westwood High. We offer special thanks to this dedicated group. Resource Room Mrs. Jeanne Connolly and aide, Mrs. Mary Messina, and Mrs. Ann Matteson, along with aide Mrs. Susan Scales, provided assis- tance to students whose person- al and educational needs were met in their self-contained school environment. The courses in Industrial Technology are taught by Mr. Laurence Rett- man, department chairman, Mr. Thomas nelson and Mrs. Lisa Bowler. Students learn about electricity and electronics, mechanical drawing, metalworking, wood working, architecture and graphic arts. Skills are extended and perfected by hands-on and practical experiences. An extra thanks is extended to the advanced students in Graphic Arts who are responsible for much of the print- ing for special school events. She did a fine job filling in for Mrs. Arnold, who was on maternity leave. Good Luck from the Class of 1988. Over the years, the Business Department has helped to prepare many students for college or for careers in the business world. Under the enthusiastic guidance of Mrs. Irene Dhosi, Mrs. riatalie Carey, and Miss Mary Conroy, students are offered courses such as typing, shorthand, word processing, business law, and ac- counting.
