A CULTURAL EXPERIENCE Foreign Languages The Foreign Language Department, under the careful direction of Mrs. Elaine Doucette, has, through on extensive curriculum of French, Spanish, Latin, and German, expand- ed and enriched our knowledge and appre- ciation of Foreign languages and cultures. None of us will soon forget Caesar ' s Gallic Wars of Latin II or petit Nicolas of French IV. To further encourage language students, a Latin and German exchange program was ini- tiated this year, a precedent for WHS. Our deep thanks go to this department for its dedi- cation and hard work towards the cultural education of Westwood Students. . . . Hola! . . . Heh, Heh; I remember when . . . From Miss Burns ' endless Comp. and Grammar vocabulary lists to Mr. Hancox ' s attempts to eschew obfusca- tion, this wonderful staff took us from eight ports of speech all the way through Shakespeare. They did on excellent job in preparing us for our futures, and we express a grateful thanks for their efforts. You should know how to do it. It ' s so simple . . . Com- ments . . . questions ... THE WORLD ACCORDING TO . . . The Social Studies Department, un- der the guidance of Miss Frances Burns, provided students with a better under- standing of man, his governments, and his interaction with society. With the recent addition of the American Stud- ies Program, juniors had the opportuni- ty to study literature for insight and documentation of American history. Though only a year of U.S. History was required for graduation, a wide variety of courses was offered, from World Cultures and Modern History to Psy- chology and Economics. The seniors would like to express their deep ap- preciation to this department for the insights and understanding of man which they have gained. Mr. Robert Avakian Mr. Donald Beurman • - - ' } .
