Social Studies Under the direction of Miss Frances Burns, the Social Studies Department has been and continues to be a major success at Westwood High School. Un- der the leadership of its well qualified staff, the students understand man ' s history, the workings of his govern- ment, and his conflict with society. Al- though the department only requires one year of U.S. History, interested students elected other courses such as Chinese Civilization, Psychology, Soci- ology, Economics, and A. P. Western Civilization. Mr. William Davis l VZ Mr. Robert Avakian Mr. Richard Stack Mr Thomas Brown 28

ndustria Arts For those of us heading off to a vocational career, the Industrial Arts Department has proved a valuable asset. Under the direction of Mr. Rettman and his staff, Mr. Nelson, Miss Adams, and Mr. Mushroe, we have learned about electricity, mechanical drawing, archi- tecture, and woodworking. An extra bit of thanks is extended to the graphic arts division, which is responsible for the printing of numer- ous school programs, tickets for school func- tions, and our literary magazine, No Parenthe- ses. A Area Coordinator: Mr. Lawrence Rettman Mr. Thomas Nelson Home Economics The growing Home Economics Depart- ment at Westwood High School offers a wide variety of appealing programs under the instruction of three quite capable women. Mrs. Joanne Arnold supervises clothing classes, and even organizes re- lated fieldtrips. Under the guiding hand of Mrs. Annette O ' Brien, students take part in an active Child Growth and Develop- ment program, particularly in the organi- zation and running of nursery school ac- tivities. Courses relating to foods include such challenges as Ethnic Foods and Ad- vanced Foods, both expertly taught by Mrs. Marguerite Knight. Mr. Peter Mushroe Mrs. Annette O ' Brien Mrs Joanne Arnold
