English Teaching— Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow Miss Frances Burns Head of Department Under the direction of Miss Frances Burns, the English Department was involved in many school affairs. Sponsoring trips to plays and movies, the department taught the student through cultural immersion as well as classwork. With the guiding hand of Mrs. Ellin Booras, the school staged a successful musical, Oklahoma. The senior class play, Tom Jones, was also a hit, along with Miss Deborah Hernan ' s spring one-act plays. Mrs. Ellen Eberley advised a large staff in creating a superb literary magazine No Paren- theses, along with the student-oriented Video Speaks for Youth broadcasts. However, English isn ' t just all fun and games, and the other talented members of this department taught courses which improve reading-and-writing skills and cultural awareness. Once again, junior and senior members of the high school were able to satisfy their English requirements by choosing from a variety of electives a course to please their individual tastes. Mrs. Ellin Booras Miss Ellen Eberly Miss Deborah Hernan Miss H. Joan Dillon Now let me get this straight. You did do your homewor k, but you made it into a paper airplane, and it was hijacked to Cuba.

United States History was required for all of the juniors, and many participated in reliving history through a trip to Wil- liamsburg, Virginia.
