Mrs. Maxine Broderick Head of Department Mrs. Dorothy Saltmarsh Science The curriculum offered in the Science Department includes some- thing to fascinate every student. In Biology, Chemistry and Physics, students may select courses that al- low them to proceed learning at their own rate. An independent study course permits selected stu- dents to experiment and research a field of special interest. Department head Mrs. Maxine Broderick and her assistants Mr. Gail Thwing, Mr. Raymond Keegan, Mr. Edward Marx, Mr. Ivan Van deWorkeen, Mr. Christos Sarris, Mr. Calvin Topalian, Mrs. Dorothy Salt- marsh and Mrs. Mary Crowell, schedule a variety of field trips to supplement both laboratory and class work. Mr. Joseph Chicetti Head of Department Mr. Frederick Wellsman Mr. Thomas Nelson Mr. Lawrence Rettman A Kitchen Organizer Mrs. Joanne Arnold Home Economics Once again the Home Economic Depart- ment has offered a variety of classes to satis- fy both male and female. Under the direc- tion of Mrs. Marguerite Knight, the boys have tested their luck in the Bachelor Foods class. The girls, aided by Mrs. Joanne Arnold, Mrs. Janet Wilkinson and Mrs. Vir- ginia Burke, have taken courses ranging from basic cooking and sewing to Gourmet foods and tailoring. The Family Living and Child Industrial Arts At Westwood High School, stu- dents may enrich their education by developing skills in the industrial vocations. Graphic and industrial arts grant students the opportunity to work with an unlimited range of industrial processes, materials and equipment. A wide range of courses are offered including woodworking, metalworking, electricity, electron- ics, crafts and the field of graphic sciences. This department avails it- self to both boys and girls inter- ested in exploring this multifaceted field. This year the department helped emensely with the school publications by printing the Sacred Cheese and No Parentheses. Mrs. Virginia Burke Growth and Development classes continued their volunteer program of assisting in the elementary schools. The girls all wish their teacher Mrs. Burke a speedy recovery, be- cause no substitute can ever take her place.
