Class Four years ago we came to Westwood High School as a new freshman class, the lowest of the underclassmen. Starting with September orientation day, we began the slow and difficult transition from junior high to high school. We were bombarded with school maps, confusing computer schedule print-outs, and an occasional wrong direction from some sarcastic up - perclassman. Our first year took place amidst the confusion of school construc- tion, eating lunch in home rooms, and try- ing to go up the up-staircase,and not up the down-staircase. Our officers: President Donald Fitzpatrick, Vice-President Kathy Berkland, Secretary Linda Clancy, and Trea- surer John Atchue, worked enthusiastically on a Bruin ' s raffle that brought money to our non-existing treasury. On the sports scene, the Track Team became Dual County Champs, the Basketball Team earned the Dual County Championship. Silent studies were a common feature of our days as fresh- men, and we looked forward to a new liber- ation with the school ' s new addition and our sophomore status. As we advanced to sophomore status, we were welcomed by a 5.4 million dollar addi- tion and another year of confusion in the maze of new corridors, and no-pass areas, and a smoking courtyard. Also our sopho- more year celebrated a year of firsts for WHS. The first school musicale Bye-Bye Birdie was presented; the school newspaper The Sacred Cheese made its appearance; the Student Council store was started, and the One-Act Plays were introduced, all adding to a special year at WHS. The Drama De- partment provided the school with enter- tainment with its Fantasy Day and Fif- ties Day . Do you recall seeing your class- mates wearing bobby-socks and saddle shoes, invading the Little Theater for the twist contest? Our class officers were: Presi- dent John Atchue, Vice-President Stephanie Andrews, Secretary Laurie Gaynor, and Treasurer Kathy Yavarow. With our feet more solidly on the ground, we were able to have two class trips - one to the Boston Celtics and one to the Braves. Our treasury began to expand with numerous bake sales. At the end of our sophomore year, we were more content, eager to become juniors, as college pressures remamed distant. JUNIORS! We finally had made it to upperclassmen, and we felt self-assured and confident. Our junior year boomed with ac- tivities and chaos. As juniors, we were half in the doors of WHS and half out, as prepa- rations for college began with Saturday mornings and the alphabet of college testing - PSAT ' S, NMSQT ' S, SAT ' S, and ACT ' S. We began to discover and enjoy our junior status as we all obtained our drivers ' licenses and borrowed dad ' s car for school. Our class was also special to have Haris Stylaniou as a junior AFS ' er from Cyprus. Our class offi- cers: President John Atchue, Vice-President Stephanie Andrews, Secretary Laurie Gay- nor, and Treasurer Kathy Yavarow, pro- vided the class with many and varied activi- ties. The Semi- Formal Dinner, The Pops Concert (Might, and Junior-Skip Day with a little outside help from Debbie. (It seems senioritis began in our class as juniors, ju- nioritis!!!) The Prom was at the Chateau-de- Ville in Randolph, and although there were rumors of reservation hassles spread around the school, everyone was able to attend.
