INDUSTRIAL ARTS Industrial and graphic arts provides students with the op- portunity to work with a wide range of industrial processes, materials, and equipment. Students develop their training in industrial vocations and also enrich their educations. Courses are available in woodworking, metalworking, electricity, elec- tronics, crafts, and the field of graphic sciences. Both boys and girls avail themselves of the variety of experiences offered by this department. The graphic arts students showed off their talents this year by printing the school publications, the Sacred Cheese and the Harlequin. Joseph A. Chicetti Department Head HOME ECONOMICS The biggest — and most obvious — change in the Home Economics Department this year was the large enrollment of boys. The addition of such courses as Bachelor Foods and Foreign and Gourmet Foods that met only twice a week led to the realization that boys can cook too. Modifications were also made in the sewing courses. This year a new twice weekly class called Sewing Workshop was offered. The Tailoring class, un- der the supervision of Mrs. Arnold, had quite a good year, highlighted by a trip to New York to see the fashion world at work. Mrs. Burke ' s Family Living and Child Growth and Development classes continued to participate in the volunteer assistant program in the elementary schools. Frederick W. Wellsmar Marguerite B. David Sanfason Evelyn Malm Bertizllle Sheffield The English Department resumed its active role in school life and this year two new members — Mrs. Ballou and Miss Sheffield — joined the fun. The Sacred Cheese enjoyed its second year of success, keeping the students informed about events around the school and the town. The lit- erary magazine, The Harlequin, was revitalized under the supervision of Mrs. Eberly. Miss Glancy and the Drama Club helped to keep the school entertained with several produc- tions — the musical Guys and Dolls and a one- act play contest. The students of the Theater Arts classes carried on the program of teaching elemen- tary school children the basics of acting and direc- ted them in their own productions. Ellen C. Eberly Mildred L. ■ ii Charles W. Flahive Carolyn D. Bergen Each year the Business Department proves invaluable in helping many aspiring WHS students prepare for the business and career worlds. The college-bound student finds courses in typewriting of significant value in making schoolwork a little easier and faster. Other course offerings include shorthand, business English, accounting, introduction to business, law, office machines, and office procedures. Indeed, whether a student is headed for college or a career in business, this department can provide him with worthwhile skills. Natalie Carey Albert C. Nolan Marlon E.
