Chipmunk Westwood High School Westwood, California i First High School Building 1919-1927 Burned to the ground in 1927 Construction began on this building immediately after the 1927 fire. Second high school build- ing in use from 1927 thru 1956. 1957-1964 years saw the high school students with the elementary in the present Fletcher Walker School 2 Westwood buildings strong and firm Each had beauty in its way Much in each did students learn Each was suited for its day. It is the goal of Westwood High Throughout each day, each week, each term. Holliway. Varsity Football This year's varsity football team seemed to be full of re- cord-breaking excitement. Spectators crowded the stands to watch with amazement Westwood's victorious team. For the first time in Feather River League history Westwood corked the Chester Volcanoes with a winning score of 13-6. Another record-breaking game occurred when die Lumber Jacks scalped the Greenville Indians for the first time in 15 years. Season captains, chosen by their teammates, Craig Sands and Alton Trawick 15 . . . . And away we go ! ! ! 16 Mike and Craig combine to bring down the ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage. Mike Floyd and Craig Sands were named on the Feather River League All-League Team for their fine play. Shasta 27 Greenville 21 Starting defensive team Bruce Miller gets off a pass against Chester with fine blocking 17 18 This year was Westwood's first Homecoming in recent years. One princess was chosen from each class by class vote. The prin- cesses were Peggy Faddis, Diane Gonzales, Cela Bassett, and Jayne Bingham. Then the whole school voted for a queen. At half-time of the Quincy game, our queen Cela Bassett, was crowned by Steve Ray, Student Body President. Homecoming Queen Cela Bassett. Although die JV’s won only one game, their spirit and effort was com- mendable in every game. Varsity Basketball It isn't whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game! That is what happened all season. This year's varsity team showed terrific spirit all season long and lost many close decisions. The team was invited to the Plumas County Tournament and in their first game beat Quincy, last years tournament champions. Bruce Miller was named to the all-tourney team. The early highlight of the varsity basketball season was the capturing of the Maxwell Invitational Basket- ball Tournament Championship. The Lumberjacks drew a bye in the first round and then defeated Hamilton City by a score of 61- 52 in the second round. West- wood defeated Princeton 56-44 for the Championship. Everyone looks forward to a much better season next year for the team. Freshman Basketball The freshmen did their best towards making a fine team. To their disappointment and the school's, the ffosh only played one game because of the lack of opponents. Boy's P. E. Westwood Wrestling Westwood Wrestlers had a fine season as disclosed in these individual efforts. In the Lassen Invitational Tournament Mike Floyd won first place. In Reno tournament competition both Mike Floyd and Mike Botenhagen gained first place honors against a very fine field of wrestlers from Northern California and Nevada. Freshman, Steve Barrera, in his first competitive wrestling season, represented Westwood at the Sub- sectional Northern California Tournament in Willows. In Feather River League competition Westwood scored upsets against Greenville and Lassen Junior Varsity teams. Activities include: decisions on student policies, approval of a title tic awards, setting of dance dates, and ap- propriation of General Funds. A. has accomplished a great deal this year along with everyone having fun. The members sold candy, prepared a dinner for the members, cooked, sewed, and have done many other things. A Junior F. H. A. was also started for the seventh and eighth graders. Bonnie explains to President Kathy Morphis that all persons do not like to eat the same things.
