THE CHIPMUNK 1962 WESTWOOD JUNIOR-SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL WESTWOOD, LASSEN COUNTY, CALIFORNIA In Memoriam Gla dys Marie Shook This annual is dedicated to the memory of Mrs. Gladys Shook, who served as manager of the Westwood High School cafeteria for seventeen years . Mrs. Shook was born in Missouri, July 2, 1897. She had been a resident of Westwood for twenty-two years . Her death in an automobile accident January 13, 1962, caused much grief among students and faculty here at Westwood High School. The loss of her constantly smiling face, interest in the students, and good food left a vacancy not easily filled. District Superintendent SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE In a world which is obviously changing more rapidly than at any other period of recorded history we must look carefully and critically at any system, philosophy or individual which would threaten our freedom to seek life's fullest meaning. We must be Just as wary of those who for selfish advantage would limit our freedom by exploiting our fear of Big Business or the extreme Right, as we are of those who would achieve the same ends by emphasizing the danger of Big Government or the extreme Left. Our search must not be for the middle of the road and conformity but rather for Justice and truth. Leonard H. Randall Administrative Assistant Louis Jeffries 4 Victor Simpson, Lester Bingham, Dr. H. Outstanding Seniors It is customary in annuals to pay tribute in some way to outstanding students, particularly seniors. This year, our OUTSTANDING SENIORS are JOHN FREGULIA and ENOLA SNEED. In choosing these OUTSTANDING SENIORS, many qualities were considered. Among them were creativity, scholarship, leadership, personal attractiveness, and extra-curricular participation in action groups. Both Enola and John have exhibited these qualities throughout their school years, and certainly deserve their titles. John has participated in sports throughout his high school career, playing varsity football in his junior and senior years, and A basketball as a senior. He also,-attended Boys' State in his junior year. He has been a member of C .S .F. in his junior and, senior years and an Honor Roll student during each semester. He was also Student Body Treasurer in his junior year and a member of Student Senate as a junior and senior. Enola has done her part in sports by participating in G.A.A. for four years, as well as being vice-president of that organization as a junior and president in her senior year. She is a life member of C .S .F. and has been an Honor Roll student during each semester. She was class secretary, an officer of F.H.A.,and G.A.A. treasurer, all in her sophomore year. Curiously enough, although the OUTSTANDING SENIORS elections were not based on this fact, both John and Enola have attended school in Westwood for their entire education. The main activities of Pep Club this year have been handling ticket sales at the games, the decoration of the football field, and providing entertainment at the pep rallies.
