A MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT The huge black stacks, once the symbol of Westwood, are gone. Gone also are the men who felled the trees, drove the trucks, manned the saws, the green chains, the dry kilns and performed the countless other duties necessary to the functioning of one of the world's greatest lumbering operations. Gone, too, are the people whose dreams were fulfilled as a prosperous community built its homes, its schools and its churches to in- sure for it's children the maximum in develop- ment and opportunity. Life, however, for those who remain is no less important than for those who have gone. While this community has only a fraction of its former population each home is as important and the churches and the school are as neces- sary and deserve the same support and care as in the days that are gone. Utilizing to the fullest every opportunity for personal development and accepting the responsibility of services of others remain real and binding obligations. Mr. LEONARD RANDALL, SUPERINTENDENT Our Superintendent, Mr. Randall, and District Secretary, Mrs. Amy Bangle OUR SCHOOL BOARD From Left to Right: Mrs. Earl Speers, Mr. Ted Hoskins, Mr. Vern Healey, Superintendent Randall, Dr. H. G- Levin, and Mr. Victor Simpson. Mr. Jeffries, secretary of the Board was not included in picture. Without our School Board our public schools would have a slim chance for existence. We, Americans, proudly boast of our free educa- tion. The men elected to this office must be cour- ageous, dependable, and trustworthy. The highest standards of education, as well as many other school functions, lie in the hands of these few men. Our School Board deals with all problems confront- ing our school. We are grateful for the careful consideration the Board gives in arriving at each decision.

Dedication To a man and woman who live before us in a silent manner but who have set a wonderful example to all who have been under their leadership or in association with them in any way ... To two people whose qualities of friendliness, loyalty and sportsmanship have won them a place of high respect, deep admiration, and warm affection among both the student body and the faculty. With deep appreciation for their service to us as teachers and friends we dedicate this, the 1959 CHIPMUNK, to Mrs. Hermine Clagett and Mr. Robert McQuain.
