Chipmunk ’58 WESTWOOD, CALIFORNIA Volumn XLIII 'Dedication We, the Student Body of Westwood High, dedicate our annual to our teachers for their guidance, to our superintendent and his office staff for their efficient management of out school, and to our non-certificated employees for their custodial and lunchroom services. These people, as a whole, are responsible for making our school environment a very pleasant and rewarding experience. MR. LEONARD H. RANDALL Superintendent '$ Message Conformity seems to be a reasonable desire of normal people and when conformity results in the promotion of the highest interests of the individual and of society it is a thing to be desired. To be avoided at all costs is conformity in matters which result in physical or mor- al degradation or in mental stagnation. We must strive ourselves and defend the right for others to be individuals in all areas where our conscience dictates that individuality is a greater value than conformity. As time becomes history, we entered our freshman year as lowly scrubs. We shared in the high school's extracurricular activities by sponsoring a successful Spring Dance. We enriched our treasury with sales, and we rewarded ourselves at the end of the year with a picnic at Clear Creek. (With our freshman year behind- us, we entered the ranks of sophomores.) As sophomores, we were a vociferous group; we displayed our singing talents by placing second in the song contest and won a third place in the yell contest. We, too, had the honor of sponsoring the traditional Christmas Dance. As the course of all history is subject to changes, our junior year was one in which our community underwent major economic changes. Our class reduced in number from 50 students to the small num- ber of 18. Despite our decreased class size, we had an eventful year. We ordered our long awaited class rings. We enjoyed planning and sponsoring the annual Spring Dance; we, too, shared in fun with the seniors a swimming party and picnic. At last came the long awaited year - - - 1958. We were seniors. Our senior year has been pri- marily one of financial undertakings, food sales, game concessions, movie sponsorship, for our senior trip. To end this very important year our activities have been many and varied: Senior Skip Day, swimming party, Baccalaureate, and last but not least, achieving one of the most important goals in our young lives.
