Senior ( ’ ass Jfi story We began our high school career as proud, starry-eyed seventh graders. Highlighting our first year, was the winning of honorable mention in the yell contest. Our social activities, while in the seventh grade, were comprised of a dance, and a picnic in Clear Creek. As eighth graders, our year was very uneventful. This was our most drab year as far as class activities were concerned. We again took honorable mention in the yell contest. Obviously we were improving, proving to the world we were loud-mouths, which no one has been able to disprove to this day. As freshmen, we slowly advanced and became more active. This was due to maturation, and the fact we were allowed to join most of the school organizations. As we grew, so did our activities. We held several noon dances and sales, and in addition sponsored a P.T.A. program. Again we win! As you have probably guessed, the yell contest! Truth marches on! Loudmouths. In addition, for an informal class, we had two informal parties. The big day arrived! Officially, we were sophomores. At this phase in our education, we were allowed to participate in all senior high activities. We knocked them dead that year! We started by winning second place in both the song and yell contest. We had improved! And, in addition, we were the first class to be awarded the school spirit banner (as you know, this is awarded for outstanding sportsmanship and school spirit). Qur socialization was improved by our sponsoring the annual Christmas Dance around the theme of the Marshmallow World.” (Although we had a swimming party that year, we can't think of a clever way to say it, so we aren't mentioning it). Time was running out. Oh! perish the thought, we were juniors. We now started the next to the last lap. We realized at this point that we had to improve our finances for our senior year. At every opportunity, with concession booths and such, we made money. Among these mad methods, was our Junior Play, Drums of Death, finally, FIRST PLACE! But, alas, we lost our lovely voices in the song contest and fell to a lowly honorable mention in the yell contest. During this year, we sponsored a beautiful Stardust Dance, with an appropriate theme, Stairway to the Stars. To top off a very successful year, we assisted with plans for the Junior-Senior Prom, whose theme, Moonlight and Roses produced an enchanting effect. S Day, August 31, 1955! The attack had begun. We were high and mighty seniors. We were still short of funds, and so it was necessary to decorate for the Firemans Ball, under the brilliant direction of Ma Clagctt ' and Daddy-O Collier This was very advantageous for us seniors because we used the same decorations for the Harvest Moon Ball. As for honors in our senior year, we started by winning second place in the song contest and honorable mention in the yell contest. After semester finals were over, we were happy to discover that we were eligible to receive our diplomas. Of course, you realize that during our senior year it was necessary that we order announcements, caps, and gowns, etc. With all of the routine preparations complete, graduation was in sight. At the time of this writing, the activities yet to come were numerous, including: Junior-Senior Picnic and Swimming Party, Skip Day, Senior Banquet, Baccalaureate, and finally, when we the Class of 1956 walk down the aisle in our blue and gray, bidding farewell to Westwood High.
