JJrincipafs 7Res sa ye Are you courageous, reliable, responsible, trustworthy, well informed, just loyal, unprejudiced, tolerant, honorable, friendly, unconceited, neat, clean minded, courteous, a good sport, patriotic, healthy, honest, tactful, studious, and a good citizen? If, after you have examined yourself, you can answer yes in full measure to all of these characteristics, you rank superior on the California Cadet Code of leadership. Should you aspire to be a leader in your chosen field, it will be worth your while to test yourself on these characteristics, one by one, and then set about improving your weaknesses. Leadership, as you can see, is comprised of a complex array of traits. The leader who has marked weaknesses in any one of the twenty-two traits of the code possesses flaws in his leadership, whereas the truly successful leader is a person with a full compliment of well developed character traits backed by determined purpose. The possibility does not seem bright that Westwood, with its traditions and institutions, as we have known it in the past, will continue. The question on all of our lips, as in our minds, is Where do we go from here”? Actually, where we go is not nearly as important as how we go. If we go with bitterness and fear we will all be losers. If, on the other hand, we face an uncertain future with courage and hope, tomorrow will be more meaningful and rewarding than today, regardless of where tomorrow finds us.
