The new school is estimated to cost about one million dollars. It will he designed to accommodate 450 to 500 students. There will be a much needed auditorium, a modernly equipped science laboratory, an auto shop, and a library. There will also be many modernly designed classrooms. As plans now stand, actual clearing of the ground and actual construction of the building should start as soon as the snow has left the ground this spring. We should stop to think of the wonderful service being done for us by the people working on the building. We of the staff, and of the student body, would like to say “thanks” to all the people who have so graciously and willingly given up their time to help us get our much needed school. After the game they went into full swing practicing for the song and yell contest. They made up a song called “Their Old Team.” For their efforts they were awarded first place in the song division. They also got honorable mention in the yell division. During the month of November there was joy unbounded, for the class rings had finally arrived. The juniors had a swimming party and a dancing party and various other activities throughout the year. In March plans began for the annual Stardust Dance. The dance was decorated very nicely, and was a huge success. Later in the year they helped make plans for the annual Junior-Senior Prom, and concluded the year with the Junior-Senior Picnic. LIFE MEMBERS ft I WANDA NADINE GERALDINE MONTE BONNIE DEANNA SM,TH BOWMAN OLAFSON COLEMAN GIBSON THELANDER CALIFORNIA SCHOLARSHIP FEDERATION The California Scholarship Federation was introduced to the Westwood Junior- Senior High School in 1932 by Miss Lucille Mahony. Its main purpose is to foster higher standards of scholarship and broader ideals of service throughout the school. The C.S.F. motto is “Scholarship for Service.” In order to be a member one must maintain 10 honor points in scholastic achievement. An “A” is equal to three points, and a “B” to one. “F’s” or Inc.’s automatically keep students from qualifying. A student who belongs to C.S.F. for four consecutive semesters, including one in his senior year, becomes a life member of the organization. This year the group had many fund raising activities. A trip to Yosemite National Park was planned for the spring. D. LIGHTNER R. SUNDQUIST M. COLEMAN T r.easurer Student President Senate Advisor B. GIBSON Projects Chairman W. SMITH Secretary D. As the 1954-55 Chipmunk goes to press, a little over half of the school year has gone by. As I look hack over the past I can see many things; some good, some bad. But in sports, one word will express everything. That word is “success!” Beginning with football in the fall semester, the hoys on the teams showed the world that Westwood was out to win. They did an excellent job. The Varsity became co-champion in the Feather River League, and the Junior Varsity obtained the championship. Several members of the Varsity were listed by the Nevada State Journal as all-opponents. Francis Kuhn (End) received special recognition when the San Fran- cisco Examiner and the San Francisco Chronicle both placed him in their listings of all-north state. Our congratulations to Francis Kuhn. In the field of basketball our teams have made an excellent show- ing. The season isn’t over yet, and there is a possibility of Westwood becoming League Champion. We are also sure that they will do well in the Annual Lassen Invitational Tournament. As for baseball and track, those are in the future. Of one thing we can he sure, though. The teams will do their best to bring the highest honors home to Westwood. yft VMOOD Susanville-2004 Westwood-257 WHITELY'S Everything For the Home One of the Largest Selections in Northern California The Finest In Furniture—The First In Appliance Service ZENITH—EASY—THOR—CROSLEY—KELVINATOR—WHIRLPOOL H.
