We have enjoyed National Assemblies, pep assemblies, student conferences, class playdays, and many other activities under their direction. Holding the gavel was Frank Cochran. Phil Trujillo led the flag salute and assembly committees, while Rita Doering kept the records straight. Financial matters were ably handl- ed by Frank Trujillo, and Kay Lou Bates and Phyllis Foster rooted out the school spirit. Others who deserve recognition are appointed Business Manager Bob Sum- mers and Publicity Manager Bill Ceaglio who have worked hard behind the scenes. 10 X i x KAY LOU BATES PHYLLIS FOSTER BOB SUMMERS BILL CEAGLIO Cheer Leader Song Leader Business Manager Publicity Manager Administrative Council The Administrative Council, being the highest governing body in school, is the law making group. The council meets about twice a month and has proven to be very effective in ironing out student body difficulties. Executive Committee The Executive Committee is the main student legislative body. it is composed of all elected student body officers. In addition each senior high basic elects one representa- tive to the Committee. They meet every Monday, fourth period. The power and duties of the Ex. Then their Iunior year they had a dinnerdance at the Moose Hall, the March Star Dust Dance, the Iunior-Senior Picnic, and the activity ot the year-the lun ior-Senior Prom. Yesterday they shipped in as lowly freshmen and today they disembark as high and mighty seniors, but they have with them all the memories of this wonderful year. They had a party at the Moose Hall and one at the Youth Cen- ter. In addition ,the highlights of the year-the Valentines dance, a Field Day, the Iunior Senior Picnic, the Iunior-Senior Prom, Baccalaureate, the Senior Ass- embly, and the last activity of their years in High School, graduation, were well worth their remembrances. As the seniors sail into the future, they wish to those who will follow their course, all the pleasures and good times they have been able to enjoy on their clear voyage during the past years. The tasks are chosen to be practical and to offer opportunity for experience in actual work situations typical in any library. Students are assigned circulation desk duties, reference problems, periodical work, library typing, and displays. Wide reading and greater appreciation of books are objectives of the class program. The development of varied reading tastes has evidenced the accomplishment of this purpose. 4.-.ln IUNIOH HIGH STUDENT CONTROL ROUND TABLE, left to right: A. Haas. D. Blakemore, G. Fregoso, A. Limited snowfall held a restraining hand on the club's activities, but nevertheless six or seven ski trips were taken. To assist in the financial department, sales at football find basketball games were held, whereupon the mem- bers discarded their snowshoes and lent a hand. An invitational ski meet was held in February in which Fted Elufl and Westwood competed. Both schools placed favorably with Westwood first, much individual skill was exhibited. A boys' ski team was formea this year to compete in such meets. Through the club many skiinq skills were formed and improved, according to Mr. Donald Wittry, adviser, and the ski activities were both profitable and enjoyable. The school spirit and teams morale helped Westwood finish second in a hard fought season. l.et's review this year's sports and see how well we have done. First, our mighty football team started out successfully, but dropped down to second place by the seasons end. When the Lumberiarks met Quincy on the home field, something happened to cause the Lumberjacks to heat the league leaders 7-6. This year's season was not without a few accidents, however. Two of the worst were the ones that involved Tom McDonald and Gil Aldrich. Tommy's leg was iniured in the Quincy game there, while Gil received a serious head injury in the Quincy game here. The next season we followed was the winter's basketball. Our A's placed sec- ond, winning 7 games and Losing 3. The 'As' however won first place in the Acher tournament, and were awarded a gold trophy which they presented to the Student Body. The B team did almost as well, winding up the season in third place by winn- ing 6 and losing 4. In the spring, track and baseball seasons opened. Taking track first, we shall see how the boys did. Everyone knows that track is built on at least ten differ- ent positions, with each man having his special field. The most outstanding were the dash and mile runners and the pole vaulters. In baseball our chances for the championship were great. With hopes of doing as good as last year, the team was high. To the coaches . . . thanks for the teams of which we are proud. VARSITY FOOTBALL This year's Varsity football team, asking no quarter and giving none. had a fairly successful season, even if they won only four games and lost five. With Quincy taking first place honors, Westwood took second. SEPTEMBER l5. l950 - - Westwood at Red Bluff Westwood took the lead early in the third quarter. It was a hard fought game but the Spartans of Red Bluff were unable to penetrate Westwood's goal line. Final score 6 - 0. SEPTEMBER 23. 19501 - Westwood at Altuxas Westwood played at Alturas and played a thrilling game. The first score for Alturas was in the second quarter. Early in the third quarter Alturas scored again. On a fumble of Modoc Don Eollinger recovered the ball and went 20 yards for Westwood's first score. Alturas scored again in the third quarter. ln the final quarter Bosetti picked up a fumble scoring for Westwood again. Final score 20 - 14. SEPTEMBER 30. 1950 - - Westwood at Greenville It was a hard fought game with no one scoring until he second quarter, when Gene Ayres carried the ball or Westwood's first touchdown. Richard Isbell drop- icked the extra point. 'he Lumberjacks were not able to score again until .om McDonald ran 15 yards for the final touchdown. Final score 13 - 0. OCTOBER 6. 1950 - - Westwood at Quincy Quincy scored in the first quarter, in the second quarter, and again in the third quarter. Westwood scored in the first quarter, and again in the final quarter, with Belden carrying the ball both times. Final score l9 V 13. OCTOBER 14. 1950 - - Portola at Westwood Westwood lost the first of two games by the score of 7 - 6 to Portola. Westwood played a good game but was unable to penetrate Portola's goal. OCTOBER 21. 1950 - - Greenville at Westwood Greenville invaded the local field. It was a thrilling game, but it tumed out to be another disappointment for the Westwood fans. Final score 7 - 6. OCTOBER 28. 1950 - - Quincy at Westwood The upset of the year in Feather River League play oc- curred Saturday, October 28 when Westwood defeated Quincy 7 - 6 in a downpour. After having lost two previous games by the same score the Lumberiacks were out to tum the tables. Quin- cy was first to score in the closing minutes of the first half. The conversion was missed, making the score 6 - 0. Westwood made its bid for victory when Bob McDonald plunged over the goal line in the fourth quarter. The regrettable part of the game came on the kick-off after Vlestwood scored, when Gil Aldrich was seriously injured when he made the tackle. NOVEMBER 4. 1950 - - Westwood at Portola The Lumberiacks won their league game for the season by downing the Portola Tigers 12-6. All the scoring was done in the last half. NOVEMBER ll. 1950 - - Lassen at Westwood Westwood lost the last game of the season to the Lassen Grizzlies by a crushing defeat to the tune of 27 - 0. The game was closer than the score indicates. There was no score in the first half, but in the second half Westwood lost its spark and Susanville was able to score four times. But regardless of the score the year's team is one of which the Student Body can well be proud. HOW TO HOP THD!! WBTWOOD VI. POITOLA n n Q VARSITY FOOTBALL ROSTER G. Aldrich 'I. Emerson G. Potter F. But with the leadership of Coach Harry Knecht, the Lum- berjacks came roaring back and took the next two games by decisive scores, Lassen 13-O, and Quincy 20-9. ln the last game of the season the locals lost a close game to Lassen 13-8. The honor of quarterback went to Frank CPanchol Trujillo, and the Captain honors went to Roger Romero. From the way the team played this year, and the material that turned out for the Ir.
