j.V. Team Completes Spirited Season, Above: LV. cheerleaders Liz Standage, Becky Riggs, and Betty Sue Driggs promoted spirit for the team throughout the season. Halfback, Frank Wright, charges at the opposing team's defensive line in a game against Tempe. 7 Wins, 3 Losses Displaying a good defense throughout the season, the j.V.s finished it off with a 7-3 record. Gridders Frank Wright, halfback, and Manuel Perez, guard, graduated to Varsity early in theseason, while fullback Sterling Bonner, halfback james Williams, and quarter- back Lyle Brandt and Steve johnson remained as top, outstanding players. Coaches Stansbury and McNaughton directed the team, instilled spirit, and brought out potential among its members. Determination is the word to use when explaining how the Westwood harriers walked off with the divi- sion trophy, winning by more than twenty points. The Warriors started the season by losing two of their first three meets, the first to McClintock and the sec- ond to Mesa. But with this determination they added eight wins, a third place in interdivision, and a seventh place in state to the final record. The team was also successful in breaking junior and sophomore records and in tying senior and school records.
