Spirit Builders Spark Enthusiasm Eleven men on the field Five onthe court Nine onthe diamond Thousands in the school Thousands more in the City. All of these people come to either participate in or to enioy the excitement and entertainment offered by the various Westwood High sports teams. Leading all of these people in the roar of enthusiasm which greets the members of the various teams falls upon the shoulders of our six cheerleaders. These girls, under the direction of Louise Wright, spend many hours to develop the skills necessary to lead the crowds in yells, to promote school spirit and to boost team morale. A game, however, is not iust action, it is not just pass, dribble, or pitch. There is more-for more. There is the excitement of the pre-game show, there is the pageantry at intermission, there is the mighty demonstration when a winning touchdown is made, a ball goes through the net, or a run is batted in. Much of the colorful drama portrayed is provided by our Warriorettes, headed by co-captains Debby White and Suzanne Hamilton. These twenty-four girls devote three afternoons after school, one class period a day, and at times there are additional practice sessions scheduled, in order that a show which is worthy of Westwood High can be enacted. Both the Cheerleaders and the Warriorettes must be considered an intregal part of our sports program. Warriors Spell Defeat From the opening gomes ofthe seoson, it wos evident thot Westwood wos to enioy one of its finest, ond certoiinly one of its most exciting footboll seosons. This wos evident becouse of the outstonding possing ond blocking of quorterbock J. Roy Rokey, the defensive ploys of Roger Coyer, the seemingly constont ground the end romps into touchdown territory by Bob Sozo, ond the efforts of the entire teom. Spirit ond momentum which ore essentiol for o win- ning teom, begon building eorly in the seoson with pre-school proctices. Although these proctices were never thoroughly enjoyed by oll, the hord work, time, ond co-operotion on the port of cooches Ford, Peete, ond Gotes, os well os the entire teom, poid off. The roods to victory for the i966 Westwood Vorsity football teom were mony, but they were by no meons eosy. There were iniuries, unexpected ploys ond other tense moments to cope with, but with their intense spirit ond drive, os well os the expert leadership of their cooches ond the bocking of the entire student body, the Worriors overcome, corrying the blue ond oronge to mony victories. First Row-Dennis Obershow, John High, Gene Solos, Poiul Scott, Henry Freemon, Rondy Donkoski, Jock Boyster, Rob Evcins, John Tockett, Pete Quintcino, Red Ryder, Jon Jones.
