Students Earn, Learn Students majoring in business education discovered seven new 0 rses that were added this year The economics course covered c u . economics as applied to business and free enterprise, and the relationshi of government, labor, and business to a stable econ- P omy. There were also courses in distributive education, salesman- h' business English and advanced shorthand and transcription. S I 5 s Nofiehand, another new course, was a combination of shorthand and an abbreviated alphabet used to increase speed when taking notes. ' M . B ' Instructors added to the Business Department were r rran Mr. Don Werner, Miss Susan Naka- awa Mr Neal Meyer, and Mr. Arless jackson. Foster, Mrs. Sadie Morris, S , - Several new machines were purchased by the department for student use. Two tape recorders and several listening stations were used by the shorthand classes. Foreign Tongues Spoken, In our shrinking world, made smaller by technological ad- vances in communication and transportation, it is important that Americans learn to talk with peoples of other nation- alities and cultures. Westwood's foreign language curriculum includes courses in four important languages - Spanish, French, German, and Latin. The departmenfs faculty remained about the same as last year's. Mr. Jerry Ferguson, a member of the faculty in 1962- 63, has returned and teaches a class first year French in addi- tion to his social studies classes.
