Text from Pages 1 - 100 of the 1965 volume:

Janus was the Roman god of gates, doors, and all beginnings who looked both forward and backward. THE 1965 JANUS Published by the Senior Class Westville Township High School Westville, Illinois IN MEMORIAM To Mary Jean Dowiatt whose name was synonymous with Westville High School for thirty-one years, we, the yearbook staff, dedicate the 1965 Janus. It is with sadness that we now realize we did not always fully appreciate her integrity, generosity, and sympathetic understanding which made her a gracious friend and a wise advisor. As a result of her untiring work, she helped many students lead richer, fuller lives. Miss Dowiatt is deeply missed by all who knew her; but, due to her complete faith in God, we are sure she would say; May there be no sadness of farewell, When I embark. 3 At present it is difficult to visualize the new addition, but the contractors have assured the School Board that this sketch will one day be a reality. Construction began on February 20 and the completion date is set at December 17, 1965. The building will house new science, business, economics, industrial arts, and home economics departments. Also included in the plans are two guidance counselors' rooms, a nurse's room, and a multipurpose lunchroom. The total cost will be $467,967. This new addition will be a wonderful Christmas present to the students of W.H.S. ROBERT E. DOUTHIT The new principal, Mr. Robert E. Douthit, is no stranger to Westville High School or to its problems since he has been the head of the music department for eight years and has also served as assistant principal. His pleasing personality and friendliness are traits which should be exemplified by all. He has as his favorite motto, Results, not excuses, develop good citizens. In view of all these facts, the pupils of Westville High School can best express their appreciation by co-operating with him at all times. 6 Mr. Max Swinford Assistant Principal Guidance Counselor M.
