It was published in 1923, while the classes were still being held in Westport Senior High. The name is one selected in a contest and was suggested by Charles Sladek. The slogan, Free From Static, offered by Irwin L. Elwell, was chosen in 1924. Each year eight issues of the Broadcaster are published, at regular intervals, for the nominal sum of forty cents a year. Since the money collected for advertising pays nearly all of the pub- lishing cost, our advertisers help make our paper possible. The Broadcaster is a student project. The articles are now contributed by the English classes, the gym department, the office and the Girl Reserves. The English classes are responsible for the editorials, home room news, club news, personals, bone- hends, and such school news as assemblies, pep meetings, picture shows and plays. The office supplies the radiograms, the gym department the sporting news. This year Miss Emma Stegner is the faculty advisor. 'I ll my l Student Council i It fosters all the important school activities and takes the lead in organizing the pupils to observe certain regulations which are necessary in order to keep the school machinery running smoothly. The council, which is a co-operative and not a governing body, is composed of members of 39 Home Rooms. , To have been a member of the Student Council of Westport Junior High School is considered an honor, for here is given the best opportunity to be of service to fellow classmates. Billy Gentry won the name contest with The Iris, flower of Kansas City. Now it is the school flower as well, and the grounds are planted with In it, so the name has n new significance.
