MARJATTA SEPPA FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENT Marjatta Anna Katrinia Seppa, our foreign exchange student from Volkeakoski, Finland, has shared our senior year with us here in America at Westport. She stayed at the home of the John Bowser family. Marjatta has been accepted as a good friend of everyone who has had the opportunity of knowing her. She has participated in many activities here at Westport—Pundit Literary Society, of which she was chosen ’’beauty queen”; Pep Club; and CRIER Staff—to name only a few. Marjatta’s future is somewhat uncertain; however, nursing and journalism are her two main interests, especially journalism. She would like to take advantage of the English she knows by being a correspondent for a newspaper. Marjatta arrived in Kansas City on August 9, 1962. She will have to leave near the end of June to tour other parts of the United States before going back to her home in Finland sometime in July. Before she arrived here, Marjatta had many ideas how we Americans would be—all wrong. Marjatta thinks we are warm, kind, informal people. She has gotten this impression from all the friends she has gained at Westport. Marjatta says, ’’All the Westporters have been simply wonderful to me, and I have enjoyed every minute of my stay. When I go back home, I will tell about my experiences; Westport will always be my dearest memory. I have had a great time here—thank you all!” 5
