.1 29 S i 8 ,v 3 l S1 i B .aw .9 kefllelllgel' YXUAQI1 . . the doors opened that first day of school in September, 1948, and how I knew that the eighth graders would make up a class that would never be forgotten, by the way they conscientiously synchronized their Mickey Mouse watches with my time. They immediately got into the swing with memberships in Pep Club and Stu- dent Councilg laughed loudest at We Shook the Family Tree, shivered with The Ghost Train and cheered Gene Bohi as Mayor for a Day. With Herbert Spencer elected president, the class of '53 was on its way! September again, and I happily opened my arms, Cas nearly as possible, still keeping correct timej to the freshmen, so anxious for a greater part in Westport life. When the literary societies and departmental clubs made their choices, the lucky girls proudly mounted their new and still unstable high heels for theoc- casions. Dorothy Carlson was elected to head the class, and a hilarious hit Mother Is a Freshman denoted the satisfaction of that year, so short and sweet. They started summer vacation in May! In September of 1950, I looked down to see the suddenly taller sophomores in another successful year. Under the leadership of Jimmy Toevs, the class supported the revived Tiger Den. The happiest smiles were worn by new members of Club, A Cappella choir, and Girls' Glee Club. The international spotlight was beamed toward the looming crisis of war, and Byron Riggs was Westport's first graduate to die in Korea. The students took up the square-dancing craze with lessons in the girls' gym, and the Gold and Blue .took its sec- ond consecutive basketball championship. As my hands moved ever onward, their time was coming as juniors, the A.C.E., English, Math, and Fed- eral Constitution tests became the chief sources of worry. The Intersociety dance, Literary Contest, and our first Prom, were the happiest times. As the graduating seniors sang the Benediction, the coming seniors tried to quiet their hearts, realizing the big year, with all its excitement and responsibilities was almost here. S-s-s-e-n, i-i-i-o-r! As the happy cry resounded, I smiled down on the class of '53. With Helen Ruf again in the president's chair, they eagerly enjoyed their last year, at the school above all others . Exciting games, the suspense of the Senior Ballot, the Prom, and above all, graduation, are the memories this class will al- ways cherish. These wonderful days may never return, but will always be in the hearts of the Class of '55 . mfm Gwb A Q9 way 55' 00 0 Q0 HALL- of FA - l w t I f I. ,Q G15 W K 9
