EIGHiay NEE WILDCAT { Th wursday, May WHS Harold S ‘ah ee FALL Fall seems to be the time of year For changes. The nights get colder and longer; The leaves change colors and fall. We too are changing. Four years ago we entered Westport High In September, as freshmen Now as seniors we have grown up, And we are preparing for a new beginning. For us, next fall will be a brand new experience; We won't be coming back to Westport High. We will be going our separate ways; Some to college, some to vocational schools, And some to work. We will all be doing a lot of thinking and wishing. Thinking about the good times we have had here, And the friendships we have made; And wishing we didn’t have to leave our old routines, And our surroundings within which we feel so secure. But we will have our memories to treasure, always. After all, the seasons must change, And we must grow and change with them. In years to come as we look back at the yearbook, one of the things we will especially remember is you, Mr. Melli, for when no one else was there it was you who gave us the time and help we needed. Your devotion, patience and unrelenting encouragement have taught us to come together and act as one. Your influence has been instrumental to the achievement of our endeavor. For these and many more reaons beyond expression, we would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation; you’ve helped to make it all worthwhile. You were more than an advisor to us, Mr. Melli, you were our very special friend. Before we leave, we would like to share with you some of the highlights of our four years here. In 1979 we entered Westport High as freshmen. Elected as class officers were Jeanne Dyson as President, Rhonda Souza as Vice President, Joann Butler as Treasurer and Sandy Gallant as Secretary. Our first year of high school didn’t start off as good as we had hoped. It wasn’t until February when Mr. Pietryzk offered to be our class advisor. We went right to work on fund raisers and pro- jects which included the selling of fuzzy pencils, tote bags, key chains, and posters. We also had a car wash, lasagna supper and a bake sale. In our Sophomore year we elected Lisa Branin as President, Holly Leach as Vice President, Darlene Loranger as Treasurer, and Sandy Gallant as Secretary. After February vacation, we received bad news, Mr. Pietryzk resigned to further his career in Texas. Therefore, Mr. Melli was to be our class advisor for the rest of our remaining years. Our activities for the year included the selling of Christmas ornaments, a flea market, and a major candy sale. As sophomores, we had the excitement of ordering our class rings, which will bring us many memories in years to come. As we entered our Junior year, we elected Sandy Gallant as President, Michelle Nixon as Vice President, Lisa Duquette as Treasurer and Kathy McCarthy as Secretary. The biggest achievement in our Junior year was the great success of our Junior Prom. It was held at Independence Harbour on May 27, 1982. The theme was “Open Arms” and our band was Steppin’ Back. Our | activities for the year included an Almost Anything Goes Show, a pumpkin sale, a bake sale, and a major candy sale. By the end of | our Junior year the Yearbook Staff was formed and was busy beginning the starting procedures of this yearbook. And finally — our Senior year arrived! Leading the class was Sandy Gallant as President, Michelle Nixon as Vice President, Holly Leach as Treasurer, and Jackie Viveiros as Secretary. We started our activities early which included a flea market, two major candy sales, and a fashion show. With this being our last year here, we were very busy finishing this yearbook, making plans for our Senior Prom and something no other Senior class has. done before — have a class trip to Bermuda!! We also started our preparations for class day and finally (the most important of all) our graduation! Well our Senior year is over and so is high school for us. But we will never forget all the memories, both good and bad, Westport High has left us with. Jackie Viveiros Secretary Bas NICK: Urban Cowboy COURSE: College AMB: Be rich by 30 and retire. FAV. Man’s best friend Bad case of Senioritis! | cae ee = ty Is this where I put my name? I owe it all to Gloria Stevens! He picked me! Back Off! Dedication to Underclassmen ... And so we finally arrived. It was that highest point in the teenage social evolution, no more doormat status, a king-of- the-mountain reality. It was a long awaited promotion, the manifestation of things only hoped for in our past, the reaching of the light at the end of the tunnel, that final climactic chapter of secondary education! Well, anyway, you get the idea; we became seniors. Becoming seniors, we slowly realizee that this was really going to be our last year of school. And all that carefree living and dreaming suddenly turned into decision making, and planning, and preparation. Yes, there really WERE such things as work, college, and careers. But with a brand — new learning environment and impending, even frightening responsibilities in the not-too-distant future, we managed to make a good time of that last year, hating and loving every minute of it. And with the passing of that final year came graduation, goodbyes, the putting on of growth and maturity (hopefully), the cutting of the apron strings, and all of that. And we left Westport High on paths of our own choice, however vague or clearly defined. So wherever you are in those final four years of high school, enjoy them; they pass quickly. And if you are in that final year, enjoy it even more; it goes by the quickest of all. And with these parting words, Underclassmen, we say farewell. We know you won’t be missing us; you have a future of your own on your mind. Charles Thompson 71 It must be a full moon os Bs y f KoiSseine aera: : f I've got the signal — Are you lost too? I knew it by the incalescance That grows up from the place they Call he East, The phlogiston that melts my tracks, carved In snow, the warmth that renders soft The frozen sod. And the wild fowl told me, too, Screaming the onset at my window and Pronouncing Lydian airs from the boughs in honor Of its commencement. And from the boughs, silent for so long, Came, also, a rustling, A gentle applause praising in a Withering northern wind. There was, too, the lacing Of my very breaths with perfumes From the budding weald, Aromas, which bursting in my breast drifted Through my bone and blood and mind And remained within me. Each day of the week would be designated as a special day such as “hat day”, “T-Shirt day”, “Punk day”, “Toga day”, “Clash day”, “masquarade day”, and “Brown White Day” etc. Everyone would dress according to the day and classmates and teachers all had fun laughing at one another’s outrageous costumes. Then came the Spirit Links. There were S¢ a piece and it was a battle of the classes to see which class had the most spirit. We are proud to say that the Class of 83 won all 4 years in a row! Now is that Spirit or What?! The week ended with a pep rally on that Friday during 6th 7th periods. Here was when everyone got together to show their spirit. The band would play a few numbers, skits were performed, and the cheerleaders would cheer. Everyone had a chance to show their spirit by cheering and shouting. It got everybody psyched for ...
