CLASS HISTORY Our theme for this yearbook is “Break Away,” but before we leave, let’s take a look at the history of the class of 1980. As Freshmen, we selected David Kings- ford as our adviser and although we didn’t get started until February, cake sales were held, along with the sales of tool sets and hat mittens. The Freshmen Class Officers were President, Janice De Costa; Vice- President, Lisa Raposa; Secretary, Jody Dean; and Treasurer, Laurie Rodriques. a NN The fund-raising highlight of our Sophomore year was the “Almost Anything Goes” event which was held in the gym. Other fund-raisers that year included a car wash and additional cake sales. The officers in our Sophomore year were: President, Janice DeCosta; Vice- President, Lisa Raposa; Secretary, Sheila Dias; and Treasurer, Penny Almeida. PAA a As Juniors we found ourselves with a new class advis- er, Mr. Kevin J. Phelan. He was instrumental in the success of such events as the “Battle of the Sexes,” the “Junior Rock-a-Thon,” and the Seafood Supper. Those fund-raisers, along with the candy sale made the Jun- ior year our most successful. Junior Officers were: President, Laurie Rodriques; Vice-President, Lisa Ra- posa; Secretary, Sheila Dias; and Treasurer, Penny AI- meida. Mr. Phelan left Westport High School to embark upon a new career in law, turning the reins over to Robert Wood, who served as class adviser for our all-impor- tant final year at W.H.S. Our major task this year was the preparation of this very yearbook. The Senior Class officers were as follows: President, Laurie Rodriques; Vice-President, Lisa Raposa; Secretary, Sheila Dias; and Treasurer, Sherry Smith. The Class of 1980 12
