Kennedy CLASS HISTORY Our theme for this yearbook is “Break Away,” but before we leave, let’s take a look at the history of the class of 1980. As Freshmen, we selected David Kings- ford as our adviser and although we didn’t get started until February, cake sales were held, along with the sales of tool sets and hat mittens. The Freshmen Class Officers were President, Janice De Costa; Vice- President, Lisa Raposa; Secretary, Jody Dean; and Treasurer, Laurie Rodriques. a NN The fund-raising highlight of our Sophomore year was the “Almost Anything Goes” event which was held in the gym. Other fund-raisers that year included a car wash and additional cake sales. The officers in our Sophomore year were: President, Janice DeCosta; Vice- President, Lisa Raposa; Secretary, Sheila Dias; and Treasurer, Penny Almeida. PAA a As Juniors we found ourselves with a new class advis- er, Mr. Kevin J. Phelan. He was instrumental in the success of such events as the “Battle of the Sexes,” the “Junior Rock-a-Thon,” and the Seafood Supper. Those fund-raisers, along with the candy sale made the Jun- ior year our most successful. Junior Officers were: President, Laurie Rodriques; Vice-President, Lisa Ra- posa; Secretary, Sheila Dias; and Treasurer, Penny AI- meida. Mr. Phelan left Westport High School to embark upon a new career in law, turning the reins over to Robert Wood, who served as class adviser for our all-impor- tant final year at W.H.S. Our major task this year was the preparation of this very yearbook. The Senior Class officers were as follows: President, Laurie Rodriques; Vice-President, Lisa Raposa; Secretary, Sheila Dias; and Treasurer, Sherry Smith. The Class of 1980 12 | A FINAL THOUGHT The road has been rough, the names and faces have changed and so have we. We have made new friends and formed new ideas. Together we have grown and have become our own individuals; each with hopes and dreams, with goals to be achieved. Sharing the hassles and headaches that faced us each day: the homework that never got done, detentions, tardies, finals, Goodbyes — all part of our years at W.H‘S. Now we leave behind our hope that happiness and success will follow our class of 1980 throughout all of our lifetimes and yours ... 22 MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED Charlie Rodriques Michelle St.Pierre MOST VERSATILE Doreen Fernandes Kevin St.Martin CLASS COMIC Bill Talbot Deb Souza BEST PERSONALITY Kevin St.Martin Ellen Cooney MOST ATHLETIC Charlie Drabble Brenda Rego FRIENDLIEST Ellen Cooney Ron Green MOST TALKATIVE Laurie Johnson Neil Forcier BEST DRESSED Jayne Lupachini Steve Connell 23 It seemed like we almost always came to the brink. Westport, Ma. 02790 693-9431 BEST WISHES TO THE CLASS OF 1980 from WESTPORT POLICE ASSOCIATION 149 We, the Class of 1980, dedicate this yearbook to Kathleen Jean Melody, our friend and our inspiration for completing this work that she had so eagerly begun. Although Kathy had many other responsibilities and would have surely enjoyed some extra hours of leisure, she took on the added task of being our lay- out editor. Kathy was determined to make this year- book one that everyone would enjoy. She worked energetically and patiently, making corrections and meeting dead-lines. Her heart is in the pages of this book — Kathy’s gift to anyone who opens it. Kathy was one of those unique people, one whom some have described as “an angel on earth” who wasn’t with us as long as we had hoped, but whose presence made all the difference in the world. She was destined to touch the lives of those who knew her. She found such contentment in seeing other people happy, always putting much thought into presents she gave, was available to talk to or just to listen even when it seemed no one else was. She was the first one to make a stranger feel welcome and at ease. 150 Kathy’s Mother, whom she loved and admired as a very special friend, has described her as being, “too vibrant, too full of life to remain with us for long.” She was always planning something with renewed en- thusiasm, whether it was a trip to the slopes, a party for a friend, or a meeting with her Brownie Troop. It seems as though this world simply didn’t have enough to offer her. She experienced so much in so few years. Kathy was genuine, the same Kathy to all of us. There was laughter in her glance and warmth in her smile, and she shared it with everyone around her. She was someone to rely upon in an urgent situation; like a big sister, you could count on her to be under- standing and helpful. Kathy’s life left no room for bad memories. We mourn her absence, but thank God for Kathy’s special spirit of love that shall always comfort us. Bless you, Kath. We miss you. We love you.
