vcr? x t no ' ICE PRI CIPAL GENE FERGUSON During Mr. Ferguson's early years of teaching, he was approached after a graduation ceremony by a young man whom he had taught in class and coached in football. They shook hands and the young man did something that will never be forgotten by him. He sincerely thanked Mr. Ferguson for all that he had done for him. This moment is a special one for him because he had done for him only what he had tried to do for all of his students. The thank you helped him to realize that the job he was doing was important and that he was doing it effectively. According to Mr. Ferguson, this experience has been a motivating factor for me to continue in education. You get very few immediate thank you's in this profession so that the ones you do receive are very special. - 9 6 -S ft ff r t l 'f is ! Ralph White My classic moment would have to be when in my first year as Softball Coach, Westmoreland High won its first State Championship. 419815 Coach Roger Perry The classic moment was my arrival at a New York City bus station and no one was there to meet me. At the time I had just recently graduated from high school and had never been anywhere. Following much confusion and the passing of several hours a relative finally found me. Glenda Akins During high school I remember when my eleventh grade English class went to a mansion in Richmond, Vir- ginia and we took pictures of our- selves around the estate as we were dressed in 20's attire. We were re- enacting The Great Gatsby for a slide presentation, which was an enrich- ment activity after reading the book. We had fun posing as F. Scott Fitz- gerald's many characters. We dreamed that we were living the life of the rich, with their many luxuries, the fancy cars, the oriental tapes- tries, the designer clothes, fine china, crystal and silver etc. Laura Wootten I went to a one-room school during first grade. We students had to share a double desk. One day when my desk partner was visiting with an- other student, I chewed all her para- fin black mustache that she had brought to school. It tasted wonder- cried when she discovered and told the teacher. That ful. She her loss moment, however, begins another story. Wanda Johnson
