FOREWORD The first edition of the Dal-King introduces you to the students of Westmoreland High School. It attempts to show you some of the ways in which the students of Kingston Town- ship and Dallas Borough have worked and played together this year. The map drawn and painted by Raymond Drake James Ophnger and Joseph cJOI1lgl1O illustrates for you the slgnlficance of the new name for our school Before the Revolutionary War much of our state was clalmed by both Connecticut and Pennsylvama In 1774 the Governor of Connecticut lssued a proclamatlon annexlng to the County of Litchfield the terrltory in North eastern Pennsylvania whlch would hereafter be known as the Town of West town was by all odds the blggest town terrltorlally possessed by any province or colony on the contlnent It lncluded all of the land between the 41st and 42nd parallels and extended from the Delaware Rlver to a l1ne west of Towan da The northern l1ne was the boundary between Pennsylvania and New York the southern l1ne ran horlzontally across the state from the Delaware to the western boundary near what IS now the city of Stroudsburg About one slxth of the area of Pennsylvanla was lncluded in thlS town 4 1 n ,s a . n .1 , . , 7 I .
