Begrnnmg the new year w1th wrse cho1ces the class selected Roberta Ewald as Senror Queen to represent 1t at the annual P1tt Coronatlon Ball Not only was th1s a class contcunmg beauty but also one havlng musrcal and dramatlc talent These were made qurte evldent 1n the sen1or class productlon an operetta rnstead ot the annual play The cast for the operetta IEANIE was expertly chosen wlth Ir1s Klrne playlng the charmlng and fascrnatxng Ieanre and S1d Kammsky the dashlng long lost sweetheart The members of the supportmg cast gave splendrd performances and helped make the productron the outstand1ng h1t that rt was Workmg teverlshly toward the success of the operetta Mrs Gallup lnee Mrss Allendorferl agam won accla1m for her superb drrectmg and her famous words Wont you please stop mumbl1ng your syllables we Cant hear a th1ng from back here' ' In another phase ot muslcal ab1l1ty many ot our class were members of the school band Among the musrcal gemuses were Ioe Camut who was the energetrc student drrector Ioyce Wrl l1ams the secretary and Carol Kahl act1ng quartermaster as well as Marrlyn Alwme Arlene Ankeny Andrew Blaschak Ron Gombar Lors Hannum Dave Herrmg Ray Newcomer M1ldred Paulovrch Iackre Prosser and Arlene Wrtkosky The mayorettes of the organrzatron Pat Apryle and Iudy Loveloy were a credlt to the class 1n then ab1l1ty ln the hne art of baton tw1rl1ng It was ln sports that the athlet1c ab1l1ty of the class was shown A well deserved Word of prarse goes to the sen1or members ot the football squad Iack Colbert Herk Daley Harold Puge Rudy Goettlrcher Les Kota Gerald Owens Tom Reynolds Tony Salem Drck Vrckroy Mrke Vllla and Art Zobel Wmmng d1d not stop at football for as the basketball season C11 maxed 1t was ev1dent that Westmont had produced another Semor class of hxgh scorers namely Harold Fuge N1no Incardona Sam Kamlnsky N1ck Musulm Tony Salem and Art Zobel Our lrvely energetrc cheerleaders and the newly orgamzed Pep Club were responsrble for the tremendous response of Westmont s cheermg sectxon at all the vars1ty games The sen1or grrls represented on the Cheerleaders squad were Lo1s G1ll1H Ardythe Edwards Ir1s Kl1ne and Becky W1ll1amson w1th Pat Bellak as substrtute The grrls are cred1ted w1th the many new and catchy mot1ons and words whrch never ceased to amaze and please the students and spectators at the games Along wrth the other outstandrng ach1evements of th1s class they are proud to add that of a hrghly commendable yearbook Irrs Klme as edrtor rn chref together wrth her staff, has grven the class and school a last1ng momento of 1953 1954 1n whrch they can take great pr1de 1 . 1 1 11 11 . , . . . 1 1 ' 1 . 1 . . . . . . 11 1 1 . 1 . 11 1 1 ' 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 . 1 1 . ll!-IPTIII 5 UF THE CAV!-ILHY TO THE MEMBERS OF WESTMONT UPPER YODER HIGH SCHOOL Th1s artlcle was wrrtten as a lastrng trrbute of the l954 Sen1or Class of th1s chool We have recalled a year of work and a year of fun From l95U to 1954 We have seen new faces r1se as leaders 1n our class helprng to make these four years memorable ones In the sprmg of mneteen hundred and frfty three the future members of the Sen1or class cast therr votes for those people who they felt could gurde the affalrs ofthe class most etfrcrently The elect1on returns showed that Tony Salem had been elected presxdent w1th Ioyce W1ll1ams as v1ce presldent Becky Wrllramson keeper of the funds and Carol Kahl class recorder The student body real1z1ng that a strong student government 1S an essentral part of any school w1sely chose Arthur Zobel to head the Student Councrl Every Tue dav rrtornrng school problems were d1scussed and many 1nfluent1al dec1s1on were enacted The Sen1or home rooms elected Carol Allshouse N1no Incardona and Ioyce Wtlharns as the1r spokesmen rn the school government Representmg the varrous clubs 1n Councrl were Mary Esther O Sulltvan left Glosser and Gerald Owens of the French Spamsh and German clubs respectrvely From the YTeens came Barbara Lehman and the H1 Y Club was represented by Clarence S1v1ts In add1t1on to the Blology Club s pres1dent Anna Mane Puma Councxl welcomed another nature organrzatron and 1ts leader to 1IS mrdst The Conservatlon Club gurded by Leslxe Kota These organrzatrons 1o1ned by Iudy Bloom of the Photo Club Ardythe Edward from the G A A Lors G1llen of the cheerlead1ng squad and Arlene Ober of the Grrls W Club actlvated Student Councrl and made 1t an 1nfluent1al 1ud1C1al body The falhng leaves and pass1ng of autumn made way for the Wrnter season To the sen1ors of Westmont H1gh School 1t was a t1me of plan n1ng and preparrng for the h1ghl1ght of the so c1al season the senlor dance approprrately named Wmterlude A heavenly musrcal back ground and a dance floor transformed mto a Wm ter wonderland provrded a sett1ng for a splen dtd evenlng Durrng the dance the Quuen and the Kmg were chosen namely Pat Hunter and Irm Mlckey From the many favorable comments of a number of students who attended the so cral tunctron the class concluded that the dance had been a complete success OI I ICI RS h X XXI S . , .
