One of the chref functrons of the school board of Westmont Upper Yoder Schools IS to de c1de 1mportant 1ssues concermng the welfare of the schools cmd students of Westmont and Upper Yoder The1r outstand1ng dutles are the respons1b1l1ty for the complete operat1on of the schools and the selectron of the faculty adm1n1strat1ve offrczals and the curr1culum They have complete superv1s1on of the ent1re scholastrc operatron v1a the superv1s1ng pr1nc1pal A very rmportant re spons1b1l1ty of the board IS the f1nanc1al operat1on through the collectlon of money from taxes and the d1str1but1on of the funds to the best advantage of the adm1n1strat1on and students The board convenes once a month for therr regular meetmgs but calls extra meet1ngs 1f necessary The 1o1nt school board IS composed of f1ve members from the Westmont board and f1ve members from the Upper Yoder Townshrp board On December 9 1953 Mr Earl E M1ller passed away and Mr F Brubaker was appo1nted to replace hmm as treasurer and Mr Cnst Cnbbons was appomted to take Mr M1llers place as a reular member of the board One of the board s pro1ects for th1s year was the proposed reconstructxon of the football f1eld bleachers Lf t The Phoemcxan staff would 'B V l1ke to take th1s opportumty to thank the board for 1ts f1nanc1al ard 1n the publ1sh1ng of th1s I book and the student body to express appreclatlon of the flne and unt1r1ng efforts of these men A Q US - Mr. Harry . H MIMINISTIU-lTIU WII A The adm1n1strat1on ot 1953 54 was headed by Mr Willard E Ackley supervising prlncipal His regular duties along with h1s able direction ot the school s chorus kept him very busy Th1s term brought an end to Mr Ackleys pOS1l1OI1 at West mont and it 15 wlth regret that the students and faculty bid him farewell vt This year also marked the arrival of the new h1gh school principal Mr D A Watts In the very short time he has been here Mr Watts has shown that he has the best interests of the pupils and school at heart Mr Watts is a graduate of Bloomsburg State Teachers College where he re elved his B S degree He al o at tended Bucknell Un1vers1ty where he earned an M S dgree During World War II Mr Watts served as a lleutenant in the United States Navy aboard a de troyer Before his arrival at West Mr Watts pOS1ll0I1 at Westmont includes not only that of act1ng pr1nc1pal of the Sen1or High but also that of principal of the Iunior High sec 1on of our school M1ss Anna Mary Raab M1ss Anna Iean A hcomb and Mis Kathryn E1 aman are the very capable secretaries to Mr Ackley Mr Watts and Mr Leckey respectively In the m1ddle of the year M1ss Ashcomb replaced Mrs Good as secretary to Mr Watts Miss Ashcomb is a graduate ot the cla s of 1944 of Westmont Miss Ersaman 1S a graduate ol last years class RPIARII-S I It r Both the student body and the teachers deeply respect our efficient and 1ndustr1ous adm1n1strat1on Mr. i ard E. clcley Mr. D.
