SEIH5 The Class of 1950 started 1ts ftnal year 1n West mont Upper Yoder by electmg B1ll B1mmel as pres1 dent of the class The other execut1ve offrces were f1lled by Tom Cush VICG presldent B111 St1nson treas urer and Mary Elrzabeth Iames ecretary The three sen1or homerooms elected I1m Berkeb1le Ph1l1p Lo prest1 and Brooke Walker to gu1de them through the year These offrcers and the1r classmates recerved excellent gu1dance from the1r advrsors M1s Margaret Greer M1ss Iosephme W1ll1am MISS Alda Long and Mr Carl Engh The sen1or class rated h1gh scholastlcally On each of the SIX Weeks honor rolls numerous en1or names were found Those Whose names appeared most often were Peggy Alwlne Iudy Callet Lo1s Costlow Eleanor Dabbs Gerald Delaney Ann Fa1r Betty Ianlsak Phyl LEFTMTO 1-flGl1ThBI' Bl 11s Metzler Ph1l1p Loprest1 V1rg1n1a Lee Mrller Allce Naugle Betty Ondreyack Mary Scaletta Mary Ruth Squrre Barbara Yost and Barbara Iean H111 The class had not only scholast1c but also a1hlet1c ab1l1ty as many sen1or boys held pos1 t1ons on the football team Edche Mrller Tom Cush Frank Carney B111 St1nson Brooke Walker Leroy Lose Inn Berkeb1le D1ck Hoffman B111 Bl1mmel hm Beam Ted Hofecker Irm Kahl and D1ck Slagle showed much sk1ll rn th1s sport However the team could not have functloned properly w1th out a manager Gerry Hornrck endured much hard Work as manager for h1s varslty classmates The Vars1ty basketball squad was composed almost entrrely of sen1ors D1ck Iones B111 Stm son Tom Cush Melvln Kle1nstub I1m Kahl D1Ck Hoffman B111Bl1mme1 and Irm Berkeb1le all con trrbuted to Westmont s cage success Glrls 1ntramural games were held Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch trme The sen1or g1rls Won all of the tournaments Wh1ch Were held 1n basketball volleyball deck tenn1s mushball badmrnton and archery Part1c1pat1ng 1n these sports were Mar1lyn Lehman Barbara Yost Bar bara Franke Deborah Reese Ahce Naugle Ann Lyons Sue Orr Pat Hammer Barbara lean H111 Mary Ehzabeth Iames and many others The contests were always close and therefore they at tracted many spectators Dur1ng basketball season the sen1or g1rls had an 1ndependent team whrch played teams from Ferndale Iohnstown and Southmont at P1tt Center every Thursday nrght They ended the season very successfully by placrng second 1n the league The boys of the sen1or class also took part tn 1ntramural games Monday and Wednesdays one could fmd the boys of the school playrng volleyball basketball baseball football or pmg pong The sen1or boys won most of these tournaments Many clubs throughout the school were headed by sen1ors Pat Hammer was presrdent of the Y Teens and Mar1lyn Lehman held the same off1ce rn both the Gym Club and the G1rls W Club The language clubs also selected sen1ors as the1r pres1dents Iudy Callet 1n the French Club Dave Kmpe ln the Spam h Club and Mary lane Gould 1n the German Club Sam D1 Fran ce co was elected to the SX6CUl1Ve pos1t1on of the Key Club Wh1le Tom Cush became the presl dent of the H1 Y and D1ck Hoffman of the Vars1ty W Club The Photo Club selected Brooke Walker as 11S leader and the B1ology Club chose Iudy Callet to f1ll 1lS chtef execut1ve pos1t1on Many sen1or boys and g1rls were framed by MISS Margaret Greer to serve as l1brary ass1stants 1 if ,1 - rp 1 1 1 ' 1 1 ' .
