IIRNT ROXN R ah R S llh Sl COND ROXX l a C X ph XX THIRD ROW btw IOURTH ROW Swv The members of the freshman class seemed to bel1eve that grrl make poor pol1t1c1an for they chose four male ofhcers Steve Carney was elected presldent Pat Gleason v1ce presr dent Ted Ewald secretary and I1m Quest trea urer Zh the b g1nn1ng of the school year the puplls elected offrcers for each of the home rooms The pre rdents of these rooms were Dave Suppe Gretchen Erdmann and Ron Morgan Ea h of the homerooms also elected udent counc1l representauves Art Reese Bob Hubbard and Gretchen Erdmann were the representat1ves who served the freshmen the1r f1rst taste of student government The g1rls however can not be overlooked ln the rntramural games at noon the freshman gxrl were cer a1nly ln the l1mel1ght A few of the out tandmg sportswomen ln th1s class were Gretchen Greer Grace Hahn Ioyce Neeb Sue Wlllxamson and Sh1rley Robb The other teams had to keep on the1r toes agalnst opponents such as these The boys spor such as footbal basket ball and baseball seem to have found the1r way ln o the hearts of the energetlc freshman boy tom Iohn Bob Sharkey Ron Morgan Art Bee e Bob Smeal Irwln Rlchmond Steve Carney Ted Ewald Gene Stevons and many othe s have already proven the1r ab1l1ty rn the feld of sports We feel sure that these boys w1ll preserve rn the future the splendld sports record that our athletlcs have atta1ned 1n the past One of the b1ggest successes of the year was the freshman cla s party The enthus1a tx Prosh planned and prepared thxs affar Xfl'11Cl'1 offered a flylng start 1n h1gh school o ral hfe Thxs well balanced class was not only good at sports and at en erta1n1ng but 1ts schola t1c a h1evement Wa also very h1gh At the end of almo t every marklng per1od the names of Sharon Bloom Claryne Bowman Gretchen Erdmann Ron Morgan Ilm Quest and M1chael Walzer could be seen on the honor roll Mus1c played a promment role ln thxs young class Claryne Bowman Sharon Bloom and Mxchael Walzer all p1an1sts contrlbuted a large measure of enyoyment to the student body through the1r performances ln the as embhes A Xylophone solo by Gretchen Erd mann was well rece1ved 1n one of the early assembhes Bob Hubbard and I1m Quest up and comlng freshman trumpeters also have shown the1r talent by furnxshlng muslcal num bers ln the assemblles Under the supervlslon of the1r class ad vlsors who were Mr Askey M1ss Deller and M1ss Eshelman the sen1or class of 52 has re ce1ved a very substantlal foundatlon for the years whlch l1e ahead of them If the group proceeds through h1gh school 1n the way that 1t ha entered 1t w1ll always be remembered as one of the most sp1r1ted classes ever to have graduated from Westmont Upper Yoder H1gh School l l I Q' .
