FICERS Lf: t Rght F d ld q R The years between mneteen hundred and iorty f1V9 and nmeteen hundred and forty nxne probably seemed msxgmtxcant to many but to the Sen1or Class of 49 those years meant a great deal They meant hard work and fun smlles and tears and above all they meant the upward chmb from a freshman to a sen1or Through those years the sen1ors galned pres txge tn many lmes The sen1ors proved that they could make the1r mark scholastmcally for many names ap peared aga1n and agam on the honor l1sts Audrey Thomas Anne Bell Rene Rodr1guez S1meon Margol1s Alxce Stmely Nancy Walker Patsy Zubrod Marvln Savermg Charles Zlm merman Nan Reese Loulse Bregman Mmam Anderson and many others made honor grades Much ot the success of the senlor class was due to the prohcxent leadershxp of Presrdent Stu Klme Stu led the sen1ors through a busy year wtth the a1d of v1ce presxdent Roger Rhodes treasurer Fred Ewald and secretary Phyllis Adams Iohn Goettllcher Rene Rodr1 guez and Ken Hettley were elected as pres1 dents ot their home rooms Fred Ewald Wxlly Hl1VkO and Harv Rab1now1tz represented the sen1ors m Student Counc1l Although the semor class had three years of prevxous experlence at W U Y they needed the guldance of the1r advisors many t1mes through the year The advlsors were Mlss Margaret Greer Mlss los ephxne W1ll1ams M1ss Alda Long Mr Robert Holman and Mr Carl Engh The gr1d1ron sport had many parhcxpants from the sentor class Many of the boys held down vars1ty berths on the team Harry Drew Ed Menser Harold Slagle Dlno Santoro Dave McCorm1ck Stu Klme Spurgeon Iohns Charles HOMF ROOM PRPSIDI-NTS R H Z1mmerman and Iohn GO9ltl1ChGf showed the1r sk1ll at th1s sport S1meon Margol1s Stu Klme Dave McCor mrck Dave Glpe and Harry Drew made the grade 1n basketball Westmont s success 1n the cage sport was due tn great part to these vars1ty men Many other sen1ors took part 1n vars1ty baseball track and mtramural games Fred Ewald Harv Rab1now1tz and D1ck Cowan acted as managers for the vars1ty performers The sen1or g1rls were very act1ve 1n the 1n tramural sports wh1ch 1ncluded basketball volley ball deck tenms mushball and badm1n ton These games were part1cularly en1oyed by the gxrls for the competltxon between classes was except1onally keen The sen1ors were leaders 1n most of the school organ1zat1ons Becky Fox was elected pres1dent of the YTeen group Val P1ck1ng was the actlve pres1dent of the Gym Club and Al1ce Stmely was the Mlle Presxdent of the French Club The Spanlsh Club elected Fred Suppes pres1dent whlle the Key Club chose S1meon Margol1s to be the1r leader Dave McCorm1ck proved h1s competence as pres1 dent of the H1Y and Student Counc1l Stu Kllne managed the Varslty W Club The sen 1ors des1gnated Spurgeon Iohns as head man of the German Club for the year The dramatlc Qb1llll6S of the class of 49 were brought out 1nto the open on the nlght of December 3 when the seniors presented a sterl1ng performance of Llfe W1th Father S1meon Margol1s took the honors as Father The ma1n socxal event of the year the an nual Chr1stmas dance was thoroughly enloyed by all who attended The Sen1or Spruce S11 houette Wlll be remembered for years to come as a h1ghly successful dance - .
