XE TOP TO BO'l l'OlVl-Bob VVL-als, Prcsinlcnt: Sharon Mehs, Vicc Prrsidenl: Nlarv Lon ,- The seniors of '51 began their studies cmd social life with all the vim and vitality that proved so vital in making their class a successful one. Anxious to get their first un- stable days over, they soon elected Bob Weals to preside over their class. He was ably assisted by Sharon Mebs as the vice president, Mary Lou Rogers as secretary and De- lores Williams as treasurer. They were wisely advised by Mr. Askeyzwiss Gerhardt. and Miss Allendorfer. After the offi- cers were chosen the freshman delegates to Student Council were elected. This group con- sisted of David Suppes, David Iones, and Mary Lou Cush. About this time the new members from among the frosh ranks were being initi- ated into the various clubs Rogers, Surctarv: Delores XV1llldms. Tri-iisurcr. OPI-ICDMORES The brains of the class were Iudy Callet, Barbara Chalfant, Lois Costlow, Gerald De- laney, Pat Hammer, Phyllis Metzler, Robert Steinbring, and Barbara Yost. This class also had brawn. Many sophomores helped to make up our praiseworthy foot- ball, basketball, and track teams. Dick Hoffman was the one sophomore who was a member of the W Club. The girls did well, too. Their basketball team, under the leadership of Marilyn Leh- man and Barbara Yost, was really a challenge to the seniors. Other members of the team were Deborah Reese, Alice Naugle, Iudy Callet, Betty Iayne Grech, Pat Hammer, Sue Orr, Mary Eliz- abeth Iames, Betty Steinbring, and Barbara Frank. The sophomore photographers were Barbara Yost, Beverly Davis, Sue Orr, Brooke Walker, and Charles Staley. Sam DiFrancesco, Gerald Hornick, Iim Kahl, David Knipe, Howie Schwartz, and Bob Stein- bring belong to the Key Club. The Hi-Y claims as its members the following sophomores: Tom Cush, Frank Carney, Iim Kahl, Bill Blimmel, Sam DiFrancesco, Ed Miller, Ted Hofecker. Bob Gray, Ed Menser, and Gerry Hornick. Dick Hoffman acts as chaplain. The sophomore party this year was a huge success. Deb Reese handled the details well. Mary Ruth Squire, Iudy Callet, Phyllis Metzler, and Dick Hoffman also helped in the arrange- ments. At the party, there were dancing, games, and a variety program with Bill Blimel and Dick Hoffman as the masters of ceremonies. The report on the party was A good time was had. by all. Vitality, sportsmanship, personality, good looks, arnbition-the sophomore class has all this and more. What the sophomore class doesr1't have is not worth having. The Photography Club, through a contest, chose Mary Lou Cush and Barbara Stutzman. One of this class's most outstanding features is their enthusiastic spirit in the field of sports. Those who partici- pated on Coach Askey's basketball team were Hunt, Danyluk, Gregory, Boring, Mapoles, and Kestle. The fresh- CLASS PARTY man members playing football were Boring, Danyluk, Gregory, Iones, Ma- poles, Menser, Newbaker, Sebest, Wood, and Wagner. Lefr to Right-Darlene Sl.-xgle. In the realm of basketball Claire Owens, Bob Grove, and Ray Living- ston became managers. Besides their sports ability this year's freshman class also produced many scholars. Among the names that appeared on the Honor Roll each marking period were those of Ruth Peel and Mary Louise Cush. lt is now possible to see clearly in this class all the necessary qualities Which will help carry Westmont-Upper Yoder High through the next three years.
