The resumption of school activities in August found the juniors ready cmd eager to start the new year. They initiated the term by electing David Cohoe, presidentg David Coulson, vice- presidentg Iean Rogers, secretary, and Bill Ewald, treasurer. Nick Dunckel, Dick Hornick, and Regis Stinely were selected to represent the class in Student Council. After the smoke of these hard-fought election battles had cleared away, the class enthusiastically set about the task of sponsoring its Halloween dance. The affair was entitled The Spirit Spree , and was held on October twenty-sixth. This dance was a smashing success, and every- one present enjoyed the timely and appropri- ate decorations, refreshments at the Spook Bar , and music as supplied by Al Camut IIIJMI E PH ETIEALLY YU H5 and his seven-piece orchestra. Two weeks later the well-attended annual class party was held, featuring volleyball games, moving pic tures, entertainment by class talent and the ever-present refreshments. During the year the juniors proved more than ever their ample capabilities, both scholasti cally and athletically. The Honor Roll consis tently listed the names of many juniors. Those which appeared most frequently were Doris Coleman, Paul McGill, Regis Stinely, and David Coulson. In school athletics also, the juniors were well represented. David Coulson Hubert Strange, Sheldon Hunter, Frank Bon nono, Dick Hornick, Bill Gregory, Edward Sat tel, Roland Cicconi, Albert Henze, and Louis Pourron were members of the football squads 111:-1 1,fv.x 1.--' -1 119- -,g,-. 1,.- 1., 11.9.1-, lt -.r 1.14. 11 .,,, Hr.-V-w 11,11 .-'-:gm lt-'w kuf -.-. 1 : 19.1-. luv- li -. Patty Lou Wright and Iean Rogers helped to boost the student body's morale by their pep and sparkle as cheerleaders. In the field of intra-murals, both boys' and girls' teams illus- trated once again the fine spirit and good sportsmanship which have been characteristic of the class. They made up a large percentage of the personell of the band, orchestra, Photography Club, Girl Reserves, Hi-Y, W-Club, girls' chorus, and mixed chorus. Carol and her staff of classmates endeavored to offer their school-mates an attractive and well written publication. Many of the juniors also took part in assembly programs of all sorts. Whether it was a dramatic, musical, or humorous assem- bly the cast almost always included juniors. On February l the junior English class pre- sented two excellent scenes from The Mer- chant of Venice . Three junior boys, Bennett Braude, David Cohoe, and Regis Stinely, made up the stage and lighting crew that always supplied the correct effects for our programs. With the help of their capable advisers, Mrs. Wineman, Mrs. George, Miss Cohoe and Mr. Mcllnay, they elected tall, dark Herb Sherer as president, fun-living Karl Park as vice-president, popular dependable Pippy Puma as treasurer, and brilliant Earle Mc- Keever as secretary. Home room representa- tives to Student Council were then elected with Bob Squires, Iohn Hipp, and lack Buser being the ones named. Two meetings were held in order to arrange lor the class party. The party was held in the high school gym on Friday I Wt 5 Nov. 23 and everybody had a grand time. The sophomores didn't fare too well at the beginning of the year scholastically but as the year progressed they began to pick up momen- tum. A familiar honor roll name was Earle McKeever. The sophs displayed their ability to act by putting on a Gay Ninties Review for the assem- bly. The play was written and directed by Mrs. George. The orchestra, band, and chorus accepted a great number of sophomores as members. In cheer- leading Rosalyn Romanoff led the way for the sophomores. The sophomores were represented at most of the social affairs by a large turnout. Many of them were seen at the numerous gym jams after the basketball games and at the class dance. They have a long list of names that always appear on the honor roll, and a number of freshman faces are to be seen at all of the school functions. The freshmen got off to a good start in their first class meeting at the beginning of the term by electing a group of very capable officers: Simeon Margolis, president, Stuart Kline, vice president, Nancy Reese, secretary, David Mc- Cormick, treasurer. Following this, they chose as their representatives in Student Council, Helen Stanton, Phyllis Price, and Kenneth Heff- ley. Fred Ewald was the only member of the freshman class to be elected to the Hi-Y. Ili Kin, played an important part in their school life. Stuart Kline, the freshmen's most promising football player, received his letter by playing tackle on the varsity team. Fred Ewald, often seen carrying water buckets on and off the field, was the freshman manager. The fresh- man basketball team proved to be very suc- cessful in the boy's intramurals by winning three straight games, but dropped out to con- centrate on the city junior high school league. A substitute freshman team took their place. The members of the team are: David Mc- Cormick, Harry Drew, Stuart Kline, Simeon Margolis, David Gipe, Barry Robinson, Charles Zimmerman, and Wilfred Hlivko. Spurgeon Iohns is the freshman manager for the varsity basketball team. Pat Hoffman, a promising young Robin Hood, came in second in the archery tourna- ment. Val Picking, Miriam Anderson, and Marion Williams were also in the tournament. The freshman girls showed their ability in deck tennis by giving the upper class girls some stiff competition. Members of the deck tennis team Were: Val Picking, Betty Kauffman, Pat Kauff- man, Miriam Anderson, Roberta Claycomb, Ianet Kels, Iesse Young, Stella Villa, Dolores Fox, Alice Stinely, Lois Hostetler, and Sally Pursel. The freshman girls' intramural basket- ball team, captained by Pat Kauffman and Val Picking, also gave the other classes a fight for their money . -1949- PHESHMEN The freshmen went all out for music by plac- ing many of their members in the band, and many more in the chorus and orchestra. They show much promise, and will make the con- certs and operettas of the future successful. In participating in all these activities the freshmen have not forgotten Why they are in school. They have placed many students on the honor roll with such names as Simeon Margolis, Anne Bell, Ianet Kels, Miriam Ander- son, Robert Bailey, Val Picking, Marvin Saver- ing, Alice Stinely, Audrey Thomas, and Ann Weals appearing time after time.
